The World Cup carnival has migrated to upstate New York for another weekend of war in Windham. Sam Hill comes in from victory, Ratboy has a busted up face, Nathan Rennie is helping the Aussie juniors and Aaron Gwin is on home soil. It should be a race for the ages on the fast and straightened-out downhill course. Experience the World Cup with the best in the mountain bikers on two wheels thanks to Sven Martin, Duncan Philpott, @maddogboris and @steelcitymedia.
Listen to Nathan Rennie's run-in with the law tale from the late 90's.
My Guess is negotiations with Specialized didn't go well, so they sent in some mafia dudes to pressure him into the deal. Definite cigar burn on the cheek.

"Upstate" starts on the other side of the Bronx line, so yes, the Catskills is upstate...4 hours north of that is "might as well be Canada".
