Potsdam, 25th August 2024 - Komoot is thrilled to announce the launch of the Stone King Route, a unique six-day mountain bike journey that takes riders from the High Alps of Arvieux in France to Bordighera, Italy, on the Mediterranean sea. With over 21,000 metres of descending, this 275km adventure enduro route is available exclusively on komoot and showcases the best riding and trails from the Stone King Rally events — allowing more mountain bikers to experience this unparalleled journey. The Stone King route aims to promote positive mountain biking tourism throughout the valleys and regions the route traverses.
In conjunction with the route launch, komoot is also releasing "The Stone King - Ride Beyond the Rally," a film that captures the essence and legacy of the Stone King Rally (watch it further down this article).
The Stone King Route | Adventure from the Alps to the Mediterranean
The Stone King Route is a unique MTB enduro adventure through some of Europe's most breathtaking landscapes. Over 15 years in the making, it follows the route of the Stone King Rally event — predecessor of the pioneering Trans Province — and provides new, exciting challenges in spectacular locations each day, ensuring riders have the experience of a lifetime.
Starting in Arvieux in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region and finishing in Bordighera on the Ligurian coast in Italy, the six-day journey covers approximately 275km with an impressive 21,000m of descending. Riders pass through the Queyras Park, the Occitan Valleys of Piemonte, the wild Roya Valley, and the hallowed hills of Liguria. Designed for enduro or long-travel trail mountain bikes, this diverse route includes loamy singletrack, exposed high mountain trails and endless alpine descents.
The Stone King Route is an adventure enduro itinerary, with the recommendation that the physical effort is aided by uplifts to enable more quality and quantity of adrenaline-fuelled descending.

The STONE KING Route - An adventure enduro from the High Alps to the Mediterranean Sea | Komoot
Previously, the route was only accessible to participants of the Stone King Rally and Stone King Touring Club. For the first time, the route is available to a wider audience, allowing mountain biking enthusiasts to experience this incredible journey.
The Stone King Rally Events have had a strong commitment to positive mountain bike tourism, with the aim to leave trails in better condition for future generations. This philosophy has been central to the event's mission and is reflected in the meticulous planning and execution of the Stone King Route.
Ash Smith, Stone King Rally Organiser said:
The Stone King Rally had significant focus on trail redevelopment and sustainability, along with the building of local communities and micro-economies around MTB. This work has helped pave the way to our ultimate goal: to one day invite everyone to make the adventure their own, in a non-competitive setting. Our extensive collaboration with komoot allows us to do just that. The Stone King Rally 2024 Collection offers a comprehensive navigational and logistical guide to help all willing, trained and experienced mountain bikers — and their shuttle support crew — to get through the week successfully, riding on the best trails from the High Alps to the Mediterranean.
Later this year, komoot and Stone King will share komoot Route Collections for every valley the route passes through, enabling riders to further explore, appreciate and support these incredible mountain biking regions.
