Stan’s NoTubes Introduces Podium SRD, Sentry MK3, Baron MK3 and Major MK3 Wheelsets

New racing specific carbon wheelset and premium alloy wheels and rims from Stan's.

Vital has updated this Press Release page with our Eurobike photos and impressions on these new wheels.

Stan’s Sentry, Baron and Major MK3 Wheelsets

Stan’s MK3 series wheels were launched two years ago with the Crest, Arch and Flow. They’ve now added the Sentry, Baron and Major which offer wider internal rim widths of 32mm, 35mm, and 38mm respectively. The MK3 line is Stan’s premium alloy line, using 6069 aluminum instead of 6061 used on the more affordable S1 series wheels.

Fans of Stan’s will notice a newer rim profile with a more rounded shape. This is a result of a significant R&D effort, testing shapes and molds that offer the amount of vertical compliance Stan’s values. The brand has been awarded its 5th patent on shape of bead and its tubeless properties.

The MK3 wheels use Stan’s Neo hubs with Durasync freehub - a 6-pawl freehub in which all pawls engage together creating 10-degree engagement. They’re built with 32 Sapim triple-butted spokes.

Stan's MK3 Wheel Weights, 27.5-inch

  • Sentry: 1876g
  • Baron: 1928g
  • Major: 1942g

Stan’s is proud to make a wheel for every major axle size and standard, so there are six different hub/axle options to choose from. The new line of MK3 wheels are available now with The Major major arriving in October. Retail price for each model is $699 USD per set.

-----Original Press Release-----

BIG FLATS, NY (August 30, 2017) - Stan’s NoTubes is proud to introduce their lightest and most advanced carbon racing wheelset, the Podium SRD. As the first wheelset to be released as part of the Stan’s Racing Development line of products, the Podium SRD builds on the legendary racing heritage of Stan’s classic Podium and Valor wheelsets. During testing this summer, the Podium SRD wheelset has already won the grueling B.C. Bike Race and the U.S. Marathon National Championships.

The all new rim shape of the Podium SRDs features a 23mm internal width and lower profile sidewalls that when combined with a new carbon layup process, creates a sub-1,300g 29er wheelset with outstanding acceleration and impact absorbing ability. The rim shape of the Podium SRD represents the next stage of Stan’s Radial Impact Absorbing Carbon Technology (RiACT).

Although the 300g Podium SRD rim is the lightest carbon rim that Stan’s has ever made, it’s every bit as strong as Stan’s acclaimed Valor and 15% stiffer laterally, thanks in big part to the evolution of our impact absorbing technology. The new RiACT rim shape and lay up is able to deflect radially 11% more than the Valor, which translates into fewer pinch flats, added durability and less rolling resistance.

Podium SRD wheelsets are laced with Sapim’s Laser ultralight spokes and Sapim Secure Lock alloy nipples. They include Stan’s Neo Ultimate hubs with updated Speedsync freehub. Three bearings spaced for superior durability and six pawls engaging in sets of three ensure the Speedsync’s long life and near-instantaneous five-degree engagement.

Podium SRD wheelsets will be assembled at Stan’s New York facility and will be available in 29” wheel size for both standard and Boost axle configurations, with additional configurations (such as Cannondale Lefty). Buyers may customize decal color and specify Shimano or SRAM XD freehubs.

The Podium SRD wheelset will be available in early September 2017 for $1,995 MSRP. It comes with a double wheel bag.

New Wheelsets Added to MK3 Family

Stan’s NoTubes is also happy to add three new rims and wheelsets to their premium aluminum MK3 product line. The Sentry MK3, Baron MK3 and Major MK3 offer wider rim shapes designed for 2.5” to 3.5” tires. Based on Stan’s WideRight sizing concept that matches rim width to tire width for optimal speed and traction, the wider MK3 rims bring Stan’s patented Bead Socket tubeless technology to Plus tires.

Like the popular Crest MK3, Arch MK3 and Flow MK3 models introduced last year, the new designs will be constructed of 6069 series aluminum and will be available as both rims only and complete wheelsets. With the addition of these three models, Stan’s MK3 series joins the more affordable S1 series in offering six different rim widths, ensuring the perfect rim width for every rider’s favorite tire size.

All MK3 wheelsets include Sapim Force spokes, Sapim Secure Lock nipples and CNC machined Stan’s Neo hubs with updated Durasync freehubs. Three stainless steel bearings in the Durasync freehub are spaced wide for improved stability and longer life, and the simultaneous six-pawl engagement system is fast and reliable.

The 32mm internal width of the Sentry MK3 bridges the gap between wide trail and Plus tires, providing more stability for 2.5” to 3.0” tires without adding unnecessary weight or distorting tire shape.

The Baron MK3’s 35mm internal width is ideal for most Plus tires, making it versatile enough for everyday trail riding and fully loaded bikepacking adventures. Excellent cornering stability and endless traction are the Baron’s trademarks.

The Major MK3’s 38mm internal width brings Stan’s patented tubeless technology to the largest Plus tires for big tires and big miles.

Stan’s patented Bead Socket Technology (BST) features low-profile sidewalls that allow every tire to expand to its full shape, meaning each of these new MK3 rims rides as if it were slightly wider. Stan’s BST rim shapes do not restrict the tire, allowing it to distribute its volume more effectively for incredible handling and control.

Sentry MK3 and Baron MK3 rims and wheelsets will be available in early September 2017, with Major MK3 rims and wheelsets coming in December 2017. Suggested retail price of each wheelset is $699, and they will be offered in both stock and custom configurations, allowing for a wider range of axle types and seven colors.
