NS Bikes Launches New Define AL 170 and Updates AL 160

NS Bikes is proud to introduce the new Define AL 170, a long-travel, mixed-wheel-size sled for all-around shredding in any terrain – pedal to the mountain, tear it all up, cruise home smiling.

The AL 170 joins the Define range as its biggest-hitting bike, with relaxed geometry, 170mm rear and 180mm front suspension travel, 29in front and 27.5in rear wheels, and a send-proof aluminum frame.

With the Define AL 170, nowhere is off-limits

Designed to address the needs of riders who want more confidence from their ride than a standard Enduro bike can deliver but still want to be able to pedal the damn thing! The Define 170 will feel at home on the biggest lines in the bike park and still remain playful thanks to the smaller, lighter rear wheel and shorter chain stays.

At the same time, the 180mm front and 170mm rear suspension travel will gobble up anything you throw at it and keep your wheels on the ground when you want them to be there.

The hydroformed frame is derived from the original Define Carbon, proven in aluminum with the Define AL 130, 150, and 160 bikes, and reimagined in this latest addition to the range.

“We selfishly made the Define 170 for the riding we most enjoy. It is perfect for big jumps and severe terrain, and it is happy on the uphills, too. It is the most aggressive bike in the Define range, but one that is still fun to ride everywhere. Enduro, freeride, bike park ripper, call it what you like – at NS, a company of riders, we have fallen in love with this beast.” - Janek Ulatowski, Marketing Manager, NS Bikes

A 64-deg head angle and 76-deg effective seat tube angle ensure the Define AL 170 pedals up the mountain (or at least to the chairlift, come on now) with ease while providing big-bike confidence when you are flying back down the hill. Its 490mm reach, 846mm front-center, and 1,284mm wheelbase (size large), combined with its 438mm chainstay length and 44mm fork offset, carefully balance comfort, fun, maneuverability, and stability.

As with all Define bikes, the AL 170 can be fine-tuned for your riding. A shock hardware flip-chip changes the bottom bracket height by +/- 5mm, the head tube angle by +/- 5-deg, and the reach by +/- 4mm.

Look closely and you’ll notice the finer details of the bike. Integrated cable routing hides cables in a recess down the length of the downtube, making for easy installation and access while preserving the bike’s good looks and keeping the cables protected. Replaceable chainstay and downtube- protection reduce noise and deflect the hits.

“I’ve been testing & riding the Define 170 for a while now and I really have fallen in love with it. Riding it through the fast & rough is so confidence inspiring - it feels extremely stable, planted and well balanced. I find myself being able to change direction really quickly and it puts a huge smile on my face whiles doing so. I feel like if I were only allowed one bike, it would be this one, it just does it all unbelievably well. It’s the ultimate machine" - Joe Breeden, NS Bikes UR Team

Define 170 AL 2

When you are hammering downhill and hitting monster jumps, dependable suspension performance is vital. The Define AL 170 takes the suspension layout used across the range and tweaks it for those who go bigger, faster, and further.

At its core, the steadfast Horst Link design has your back. Pedaling efficiency is guaranteed thanks to its considerable anti-squat; this drops off in a linear fashion as you move deeper into the travel, ensuring even the roughest terrain is smoothed out to perfection.

The bike’s progressive leverage curve provides ample mid-stroke support; it becomes slightly regressive for bottom-out control at the end of the stroke.

Consistent anti-rise throughout the travel means the suspension remains active and the geometry balanced while braking.

The Define AL 170 is available in three sizes (small, medium, large) and two build kits.

About the Define range

Born from experience with the highly popular Snabb range, Define means go-anywhere, do- anything. Head out on a mission into the mountains, hang out at the bike park, and hit up some trail center laps. These bikes are the true meaning of all-mountain.

First launched in 2019 with the Define Carbon 130 and 150 bikes, the range expanded in 2020 to include three aluminum models, the Define AL 130, 150, and 160. For 2021, every base is covered thanks to the addition of the big-hitting Define AL 170.

About NS Bikes

Szymon Kobylinski founded NS Bikes (originally Northshore Extreme) in 2003 after a wild ride through the nineties, winning national-level downhill races between touring with his gold and platinum-selling rock group, Blenders.

The company has grown steadily over the years but never lost sight of its goal to make quality, desirable, and affordable bikes. Its employees share Szymon’s devotion to two wheels and enjoy testing equipment on the surprisingly burly terrain near the headquarters in Gdańsk, Poland.
