Today, Kali launches their new TAVA CX//road helmet. Yes, we know it's not MTB, but it features some pretty cool new technology that Kali has said will eventually trickle-down to their MTB line. Plus, Jeff Kendall-Weed is a ripper!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MORGAN HILL, CA - Brad Waldron, Kali Protectives’ Founder and chief engineer, designs his helmets with one concept in mind – “Smaller and lighter is better.” The TAVA, our first aero road helmet, embodies that statement in both the technology used in its construction and its performance.

With the TAVA, we are proud to introduce BUMPER FIT 2.0, the newest iteration of our proven BUMPER FIT technology and Kali’s response to managing rotational forces in the event of an impact. The original memory foam BUMPER FIT is renowned for improving a helmet’s fit and comfort, while also managing low G impact. With BUMPER FIT 2.0, specially designed sections of armor gel are placed throughout the inside of the helmet. The oval shapes of the gel compress and deform to absorb and redirect energy. As a result, BUMPER FIT 2.0 reduces low G impacts by 12% while at the same time reducing rotational forces by an average of 25%, and over 30% in some cases.

The TAVA also utilizes COMPOSITE FUSION Squared, a co-molding process whereby a layer of Nano Core foam, shaped with cones facing both inwardly and outwardly, is sandwiched between two layers of low-density EPS foam. The opposing cone configuration manages impact G forces from both directions – helmet to ground, and helmet to head. The effectiveness of this configuration allows the use of softer foam and a low-volume shell without sacrificing protection.

To aid in keeping the shell volume to a minimum, the TAVA utilizes Nano Core, a light weight material consisting of bonded nano carbon polymers. This nano material possess superior energy management when compared to EPS foam. The combination of COMPOSITE FUSION Squared with a Nano Core liner results in an extremely low shell volume that Kali Protectives helmets are known for.

The combination of all three of the above technologies allowed Kali Protectives to integrate one more benefit into the TAVA – an aerodynamic advantage. In the wind tunnel, the TAVA’s low shell volume, strategic vent placement, and smooth surface performs very well in a zero degree position, but excels in crosswinds. When compared to four leading aero road helmet competitors, the TAVA showed a reduction in drag by an average of 50 grams at a 5 degree offset when traveling at 25 mph. This is the equivalent to saving 0.5 seconds per kilometer, or 25 seconds over a 50 kilometer race.

So, the TAVA is smaller and lighter than most aero road helmets, while still providing the protection for which Kali Protectives is known. And according to wind tunnel testing, it is faster than most of its competition in a wider range of conditions. Thus, we believe the TAVA is an aero road helmet that is faster everywhere.
