 Press Release:

Event: 9th Annual Fears Tears & Beers Enduro
Date: Saturday June 14, 2014
Location: City Park, Ely, Nevada USA

Ely, NV. (April 2, 2014) — Join a weekend of fun and riding in beautiful Ely, Nevada as we celebrate the 9th annual Fears, Tears & Beers Enduro on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

FT&B is a unique mountain bike race that was started in 2006 by a group of friends who patterned it after motorcycle enduro when this format was just getting under way in Europe. Even after years of putting on the event, the Enduro format was all but unheard of here in North America until the last years when events and series all over the US have caught on like wildfire. FT&B has remained small but has attracted top riders from all over the west including Mark Weir, Ben Cruz and Casey Coffman. The Fears, Tears & Beers is not only the longest running mountain bike enduro in North America it’s also one of the toughest with 40 miles and some 6000’ feet of climbing for the pros. No lifts and several 45+ minute transfers means a long and challenging day for riders fit enough to take on the long course.

Cyclists, fans and volunteers are expected to compete, participate and cheer riders through five classes of events. The climax of the weekend festival is the award party and raffle in old town Ely. Everyone is welcome at this funky, fun event. Fears, Tears & Beers is a community event, and volunteers play an essential role in preparing the course and running the race. All profits from the event go to support the Great Basin Trails Alliance, a non-profit organization developing and building multi-use trails in the Great Basin.

After the start at city park, racers parade through the casinos (yes, through!) and climb on single track in beautiful Great Basin scenery to the first stage. There are timed sections for every level of rider. Five competitive classes are available for both men and women: Fun Run, Beginner, Sport, Expert and Pro. The Jail House Casino, White Pine Tour and Recreation Board, and other local businesses will be sponsoring the Pro class again this year with cash prizes for the top finishers.

Men’s and Women’s events for all classes:

  • Fun Run: 12 miles, 1700’ climbing/descending, 2 timed sections
  • Beginner: 17.5 miles, 2,300’ elevation gain/descent, 3 timed sections
  • Sport: 26.6 miles, 3,500’ elevation gain/descent, 4 timed sections
  • Expert: 33.3 miles, 5,400’ elevation gain/descent, 6 timed sections
  • Pro: 40 miles, 6000’ elevation gain/7000’ descent, 7 timed sections.

Entry fee is $55 for Pro category and $45 for all other classes. There is an additional $5 registration fee after June 7th. On Line Registration: FearsTearsandBeersMountainBike2014.edgereg.com
