Downhill racing returns to the Scottish Highlands

Fort William, Scotland, 17 May 2022 – After a two-year hiatus, Downhill racing makes its return to the Scottish Highlands as the 2022 Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup returns to Fort William for its second Downhill stop of the season.

Live finals schedule on Red Bull TV:

DH Women

The Women's Elite final takes place on Sunday, 21 May, at 13:30 (CEST).

DH Men

The Men's Elite final takes place on Sunday, 21 May, at 14:30 (CEST).

The last two times the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was at Fort William, Amaury Pierron (FRA) took the win in the elite men’s race. Despite his incredible performance, Amaury has some strong competition from riders like 2021 Overall World Cup winner and fellow Frenchmen Loïc Bruni or Canadian hotshot Finn Iles, if he wants to retain his title at Fort William.

Meanwhile, British riders Danny Hart and Laurie Greenland demonstrated their confidence on the Scottish tracks with their podium places during the second round of the British Nationals early May. Greenland might even benefit from the experience and knowledge of his team member, seven-time Fort William winner and GOAT of DH racing Greg Minnaar (RSA).

The Elite Women’s competition gives the British Downhill fans a reason for hope as Tahnée Seagrave won the last time the UCI World Cup was in Fort William. However, she is up against some strong competition with the 2021 Overall World Cup winner Vali Höll (AUT), reigning World Champion Myriam Nicole (FRA), Lourdes winner Camille Balanche (SUI) and Nina Hoffmann (GER), who recently won the second round of the British Nationals all taking part at Fort William.
