From Carter Holland at Black Market Bikes:

There’s almost nothing better than when you’re expecting something new and exciting to show-up. Today just happened to be one of those days and the waiting is over!!!! We just received the first production sample of our most ambitious project to date…

So, without further adieu… I give you the Black Market Killswitch exactly as you will see it in approximately 40 days… that’s right, 40 days!!!

Revisions for the production model consisted of a new headtube, larger diameter downtube, beefed up headtube section and lots of new machining to the backsides of the linkages and rear triangle.

The Hammer-Link is the epicenter of our suspension technology providing 100mm of extremely versatile travel. After months of successful testing it has undergone some additional machining to reduce weight in non-structural areas.

One of the more important revisions has come from X-Fusion in the form of a custom tuned version of the 2010 02 RCX shock which has performed exceptionally well during testing. Expect to see and hear more about this soon.

Thought out touches like cable routing, replaceable threaded inserts or NyLock nuts at every bolt location and a replaceable BB shell combine to make this, one bad mutha…

Replaceable drop outs available in horizontal, vertical or Maxle versions and are “Lego Fit” into the drop out lug and held firm with 2 x 8mm bolts… no chain ring bolts here.

Killswitch Features:
  • Handmade from a custom 6061 T6 tubeset with precision CNC’d linkages & yokes.
  • Black Market’s own proprietary Hammer-Link design with 100mm travel.
  • Replaceable Nylock nuts and threaded inserts milled into the frame at all bolt locations and shock mount points protect against over zealous mechanics and owners a like.
  • Custom Killswitch tuned X-Fusion 02 RCX shock.
  • All hardware and bearings are easily accessible for ease of maintenance and repairs.
  • Blk Mrkt Cartridge Zero Stack headset (included) design to allow for the lowest front end possible.
  • Replaceable BB shell also acts as massive 40mm pivot axle keeping things stiff and true.
  • Replaceable drop outs in horizontal (included), vertical or Maxle versions(sold separately).

Check 1:34 of the video for the scissor-link action. I think the weight gain over using a design with rear pivots is not even worth mentioning, considering how much stiffer this design is.

What is there to not understand? It's a swing link single pivot. The point on the swingarm where the bottom of the shock mounts is static relative to the shock stroke. It only floats perpendicular to the shock stroke just like that link will. The chief benefit imo is you can drop weight and increase strength by having one less mounting location on the main frame. I'm a little split on the idea though. I've always believed in having as low an unsprung weight as possible and that system obviously raises the unsprung weight significantly. The biggest counter to that argument is that the extra weight is right next to the pivot and would, therefore, have less of an effect than, say, a heavier wheel.

no matter how much i study these pictures, i cannot for the life of me work out how the suspension link design works! as far as i can see, all that the shock is mounted to is the rear swing arm lol
