Legendary photographer, Gary Perkin, has formally announced his departure from the World Cup media scene in order to spend more time with his family, as he focuses on a new chapter of his career. Vital MTB would like to thank Gary for his passion, labor and dedication to World Cup photography over the years. A "Flipper" photograph has an undeniable style built on experience, expression and creativity. Gary Perkin's style is unmatched in our industry.
Gary and fellow South African, Sven Martin, were an integral part of Littermag.com's first MTB race slideshows in 2006. These slideshows caught the eye of the fans and industry because of images like Gary's. Littermag eventually became Vital MTB. Without Gary's intimate story-telling ability and eye for the overlooked, I shudder to think about the gaping hole that would have been left in World Cup race coverage online.
Thank you Gary. Your World Cup images will be missed, but your family will reap the benefits of your presence at home. Vital MTB is proud of your decision, and we could not be more honored to have had you in the trenches for us all these years. We look forward to the work you create with your new assignment...BOOSH! -gordo

Gary, enjoy the next chapter in your life. The press room (and stairwells, and doorsteps, and carparks) won't be the same without you.
So who's going to keep Sven under control now?

Good for you, Gary. Good. For. You.
Thank you for bringing out the beauty of this sometimes brutish sport. You have touched us all.

Thanks Gary
I've developed a slight addiction for the DH slideshows, and your panning shots will be missed.
See you on the trails more often!

But not really. I'm infinitely more excited that you will be able to ride with your kid and am looking forward to what you do with SC.

You will be missed but your photography will remain permanently imprinted on the top level of my cornea.
Thanks for delivering some of the best slideshows/reports I've ever had the pleasure to witness.
Best of luck (although I know you don't need any luck since you have the skills and determination to succeed) with whatever you take on next.
cheers!
