Sunny skies greeted the racers as they took to the track in Lenzerheide for qualifying for the 5th round (actually 4th, with Fort William cancellation) of the 2021 UCI Downhill World Cup. With just a short few days to reset the systems after World Champs in Val di Sole, getting up to speed quickly was definitely the name of the game here. The freshly crowned Elite Women's World Champ Myriam Nicole wasted no time doing just that, as she continued where she left off with a qualifying run that left everybody else in the dust. In the Elite Men's it was a blue-white-red kinda day as well as Loris Vergier and Amaury Pierron backed up their timed training scores with another 1-2 finish here in qualifying. 5 Frenchies in the top 7, separated by only 2.6 seconds, it seems likely we're about to be treated to a couple more renditions of "La Marseillaise" in tomorrow's final. Troy Brosnan was up through 2 splits before running into some kind of issue, will he be the one to stand up to the baguette army? Find out tomorrow!
Healing vibes to Brendan Fairclough who was airlifted out during practice with what was feared at the time to be a compound femur fracture, but which later turned out to be "just" a big cut.
