The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill returns to the classic and long-running venue of Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec after a hiatus since World Champs in 2019. The well-known, abusive track has seen the removal of the high-speed section from the last go to a more natural, technical section. Times have increased by about 20 to 30 seconds as a result. Conditions were a mix of damp and slick in the woods with drier conditions out in the open. There was mid-day rain for earlier practice. The consensus by riders is that the track is great and should only get faster as it dries toward race day. Flat tires were a common occurrence today once riders pushed during timed runs.
We've heard Elite Women's series leader, Camille Balanche, is out for the season broken collarbone after a crash in practice, Loic separated his shoulder** and Loris had a big off as well. We wish them all the best.
**Update - Loic is on course for the morning of qualifying
Flat tires were a common occurrence today as riders pushed the pace during timed runs. Just heard that Amaury had a flat during his 4th place timed run.
