Although the copious amount of dust has probably not actually settled yet, day one of racing at the EWS Northstar is in the books, and the top of the leaderboard looks mighty familiar at this point. Times are however extremely tight, and with the challenging conditions here in Northern California anything can still happen - just ask Eddie Masters who fell victim to the treacherous tracks and looks likely to be watching the rest of the 2019 season from the sidelines with a broken wrist. Heal up fast Eddie!
With two out of six stages done, Richie Rude leads out the men but his advantage over Sam Hill is only 0.6 seconds after the pair swapped stage wins as the race got underway. Mitch Ropelato is on a charge and sits third, six seconds back, while Martin Maes showed us that his recent suspension has done nothing to slow him down, just one second adrift of the podium at this point. In the women's, Isabeau Courdurier holds an 11-second lead over Noga Korem, while Andreane Lanthier Nadeau rounds out the podium a further 12 seconds adrift. Stay tuned for more action tomorrow as we take on the final four stages of racing including the all-important queen stage.
