Qualifying took place at the Val di Sole, Italy World Cup today with new faces and shake-ups on a steep and slippery course where DNF's and DNS's are stacked up like headset spacers in our PIT BITS gallery.

Amaury Pierron is on a roll. Back-to-back wins at the last World Cup DH rounds are followed by another qualifying win today. The fast Frenchman was 3.4 seconds up on Finn Iles in 2nd. This is Finn's first year as an Elite rider with today's result being his best of the year. Hugo Frixtalon of France, a name we don't usually see high in the rankings, put down a 3rd-place qualifier. Danny Hart, fastest yesterday in timed training finished 4th, 10 seconds off the pace with Luca Shaw just behind him in 5th. A few more fresh faces sprinkled the Top 10 today.

Amaury Pierron.

Aaron Gwin had a crash and DNF and initial trackside reports indicate his thumb was re-injured. We'll try to verify. Also sad to see Dakotah Norton with a DNF. We don't have any word on what happened there yet.

Vital RAW from this morning. It looked mint until the rain came right as qualifying started.

There's a new face at the top spot in the Elite Women's class. Slovenian, Monika Hrastnik put the hurt down on the class almost 10 seconds ahead of 2nd-place, Tahnee Seagrave. We saw her name in timed training yesterday and are stoked to see it back in the mix when it counts. Both Tahnee Seagrave and Rachel Atherton (who ended up in 5th) had solid upper split times indicating the course is catching the best riders out.

Thibaut Daprela took the Junior Men's top honor by just .5 seconds over Giacomo Miasero. #USDH pinner, Joey Foresta landed in 3rd (YEAH, BOY!)

Vali Holl was convincingly ahead of the rest of the Junior Women, but #USDH ripper, Anna Newkirk is closing the gap and getting faster at every race, today in 2nd place.

I guess Minnaar's elbow is still busted?

Sucks about the conditions, but it's cool to see some new names at the top. Good opportunity for some privateers to show off.

here's what lee trumpore just sent --- Qualis was shit show. Sun all morning then torrential rain in the 30 min between jr men quali and start of women. Myriam got hurt in practice so poor Rachael had to drop in first to a super slick track with zero lines cut into it. Gwin crashed in practice and hurt his thumb again, he was planning to run until about 10 min before start when a second round of rain rolled in so he just broke the beam and called it a day.

Whole lotta names on that start list I've never heard of, qualifying must have been a Sh!t show. Has there ever been a race where 6 protected riders were outside of qualifying?

Top 10 from last year are automatic, the top 20 from this year are automatic, then it's the next 50? Last race that meant 60 total but there are so many overlaps and DNSs that could lead to more than the next 50 in finals. It is so damn confusing now...
