RESULTS - Qualifying, Les Gets World Cup Downhill

A day after the Les Gets World Cup downhill mountain bike track showed its teeth for the first time, racers dropped in for qualifying. In Thursday's practice, multiple competitors, including Marine Cabirou, were taken out by a tricky road gap jump but the track is drying up and the riders are making more sense of it now. Qualifying got underway in perfect conditions as the riders took to the course to fight for their spot in the lineup for Saturday's race. Out of the competitors, the fastest 60 Elite Men, 15 Elite Women and 25 Junior Men compete on race day (plus any protected elite male or female riders who failed to post a time within the fastest 60 men or 15 fastest women, respectively). With the class size generally being quite small, all Junior Women are given a chance at a race run.

Myriam Nicole stomped her authority on the Elite Women's field with a dominant performance. 1st year Elite Vali Höll ended up in 2nd place but 7 seconds back, leaving her a lot of work to do if she wants to contest the win tomorrow. She said was feeling rattled by the big jumps and she elected to go around some of them, we'll have to wait to see if she can work up to it in time for finals.

With Amaury Pierron missing from the men's field after his French Cup crash last weekend, we're short one fast Frenchie but that doesn't mean that the baguettes won't be out in force to fight for the win here in Les Gets - Loic Bruni laid down the fastest run of the day, with Loris Vergier showing green at all the splits before fading into third at the finish. Angel Suarez seems to be getting along famously with his new bike as he snuck the prototype Commencal in between Loic and Loris. First round winner, Troy Brosnan, had a DNF after a big crash, but he should be good to go for finals.
