RESULTS - Martin Maes and Bex Baraona Win EWS Tweed Valley

With the men's overall title having already been decided yesterday by the unfortunate disqualification of Richie Rude (for going on the wrong side of a course marker), all eyes were on the women to see who would come away with the championship. Melanie Pugin had a strong but not unassailable lead coming into the race, and her sub-par performance on the Pro Stage left a glimmer of hope for Morganne Charre who was trying to chase her down for the title. Melanie rode steady on day 2 however and her 7th place finish was enough to secure her first ever EWS overall victory - big congrats! Congratulations to local lass Bex Baraona who won the race and punched her first ever ticket to to the top of the podium.

In the men's race, Jack Moir won the Pro Stage but a crash on stage 2 saw him land on his already injured shoulder, leaving him "asleep at the wheel" for the remainder of the day. Everything is relative of course and Jack still brought it home in 4th place, ready to celebrate his first EWS overall title in style. Martin Maes showed that he is indeed back up to speed after his early season hiatus, and ready to do battle for the title again next year - his win here today will do his confidence no harm. Jesse Melamed and Adrian Dailly rounded out the podium in 2nd and 3rd.
