The rain continued to make things interesting at Snowshoe, West Virginia, as the 2017 U.S. National Championship Downhill qualifying (or seeding since no one was eliminated) round took place. Santa Cruz Syndicate rider and East Coast local, Luca Shaw, took a two-second victory over Aaron Gwin of the YT Mob. Pro GRT regular, Demetri Triantafillou, ignored his dester, dry Utah heritage and tackled the slime, posting up over some World Cup talent with a strong 3rd place result in the tricky conditions. Jill Kintner was nearly a minute faster than second place Caroline Washam in the Pro Women's class, but from 2nd on down, the times were close all the way through 7th place. Nik Nestoroff put a big margin into the Junior X class (Cat 1 15-18) and would have been 4th in Pro Men's category. Finally, Samantha Soriano posted a first-place time in Junior Women's that would have netted a 2nd place in Pro Women's.
