We’re pleased to bring you some more good news on Matti Lehikoinen’s recovery following his
huge crash at the Nordic Downhill Championships in Kungsberget, Sweden.
Team ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof Manager Nigel Page told us: “Matti is now in a hospital in Helsinki which is pretty close to where he lives, so that is a lot better. The hospital also specialises in jaw injuries which is good.
Matti is fully conscious now and aware of everything. He’s back to himself and has a new iPad to mess about on, so in the next few days he’ll probably be posting some updates himself.
He still can't speak or eat yet but they’re planning on taking the tubes out of his neck in the next day or so and get started with that. He may also be able to leave the hospital and go home at the end of the week. Fingers crossed.
The doctors are amazed at Matti's recovery from this. He's a tough kid and very determined.
Matti’s girlfriend Anna said his face is also back to looking normal again so all Matti's female fans don't have to worry, he is still way better looking than the rest of us on the team!"
We’ll keep you updated as to the latest on Matti’s condition. Everyone at Vital, CRC, the team and sponsors wish Matti a fast recovery. Matti has been overwhelmed by all the messages of support received so far - if you haven't already, you can post your own message on the
Team's Facebook page now.
