FINAL RESULTS - Richie Rude and Isabeau Courdurier Win EWS Val di Fassa #1

The threat of moisture did not materialize and the racers were able to take on the first EWS event of 2021 under blue skies and with great track conditions. Richie Rude picked right back up where he left off, as did Isabeau Courdurier, both logging wins here in Italy to kick off their campaigns. Richie did it with the smallest of margins however, holding off Jack Moir by just 48/100ths of a second! Isabeau had a little bit more room to breathe, but neither of the winners were able to enjoy a "total-stage-domination" type event here as there were multiple stage winners in both the men's and the women's elite categories. Stage 3 was particularly tricky, with a solid climb mid-stage to really set the legs and the lungs on fire, and it shook things up a bit with 2020 breakout Charles Murray and first-year elite Harriet Harnden (who also races XC World Cups!) taking the stage wins here. Defending champ Sam Hill was a bit off the pace after a solid first stage, maybe approaching the physical stage 3 too conservatively, leaving him well outside the top-ten in the final standings.
