UCI Mountain Bike Downhill racing in Maribor, Slovenia avoided Covid cancellations and concluded in fine fashion with a dramatic end to a dual-race weekend. Nothing was normal about this event as competitors had to face a longer-than normal week of training and racing and a course devoid of fans with limited crowds.
Leona Pierrini took the win in Junior Women's by over 9 seconds. Oisin O'Callaghan, the current World Champ and winner of race #1, is unstoppable adding another win to his Junior resume. 6.4 seconds up over 2nd place Nuno Reis proves his dominance. Heck yeah, Dante Silva #USDH in 3rd!

Elite Men's play-by-play
- Greg Minnaar ran to the hot seat with a solid time, especially through the bottom half of the course.
- Luca Shaw, Charlie Hatton and Baptiste Pierron were up on splits at the top and then time slipped away through the bottom, leaving Greg in the hot seat.
- Angel Suarez kept it green with precise-but-aggressive riding and booted Minnaar from hot seat.
- Aaron Gwin found some form and swiped the hot seat from Angel by just a few tenths.
- Danny Hart just looks so rad in his race runs! Loose and flying. He was up at the top splits, but then lost tiny bits of time at the end, leaving Gwin in front.
- Dakotah Norton was up at the first splits and challenging, lost a bit of time mid-track and then went down. Bummer, but his pace his there.
- Finn Iles was up by pretty significant margins through the top with a pinned rock garden section. Finn held the advantage, but lost a bit through the end. He held on to that margin to take the hot seat by .5 seconds
- Trummer just didn't have it today.
- Matt Walker yo-yo'd with splits and steals the hot seat from Finn by .4 seconds in an impressive run with a near-crash save.
- Loris Vergier has a smashing top section, up by over a second. His line choice through the triple area, cost him dearly, however. His margin up top was large enough to keep him green and he clawed back a bit of time to take the hot seat. Could it be a double-win for Loris this weekend?
- Troy Brosnan yo-yo'd the splits, getting swappy in the rocks, losing time and never gaining it all the way back. Another French winner is guaranteed with two riders remaining.
- Thibaut Daprela was pushing, but was red through upper half of the course. He lost some time, then gained some back, but didn't have enough for a top time. An impressive performance nonetheless for the first-year Elite.
- Loic Bruni, on the gas, perfection in some sections (like the rock garden), but apparently not in others. Loic crossed the line just .05 seconds behind Loris Vergier! .05!
- Loris takes his 2nd win in as many races. A double-victory for Loris this weekend!
- The Top 10 were separated by less than 3 seconds.
