The fourth race of the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill took place in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. This staple venue on the circuit for the last few years featured a track with new, fresh sections that resulted in a rough, technical challenging ride the entire way to the bottom. The crowds were large, the track was fast and the times were tight. Dig into the results and a huge congratulations to Rachel Atherton on her return to racing with a spectacular in 6th place in Elite Women.

I, for one, am resigned to being happy that the US men did not die during their runs.

Now...the questions remain: "Is Luca uninjured and able to stay on the torrid pace he's had?" "Will Dak get out of that crash without stitches 🪡?"...cause bridges are evil.

Rachel putting in just off the podium after almost 4 years? I had my doubts and I know its a long way off the top two but I'm pretty damn impressed.

Right? She hasn’t even been training…just rolled up and still goes 6th. Crazy. Seems she could absolutely be back at the top with a full off-season under her belt

Yeah I suspect she’d still dominate when fully prepared and fit.

Valli is the only one with the raw talent to be at Rachel’s level, but her mental game isn’t there. Yet.

I disagree with that Raw Talent comment. Sounds like you e never been to a World Cup.

But first I want to point out that absolute Bullshit cap of 15 riders for the Elite women. It suppresses sponsorship opportunity, cuts down on development by limiting the talent pool that can get into and progress through the ranks in Elite finales and holds women's DH back. The women's Elite should have a percentage cutoff to make the finale if they want to grow the sport for women & provide a job opportunity that has a longer life span.

If you say did an 80% of the field makes the finale, then perhaps a cap of 40...you open the capacity for middle of the pack female racers to get a qualifying run, multiple finals runs AND in 3-5 years, those middle of the pack women get a better grip & learn racecraft.

A cap of 15-20 women means 6-8 weeks out of the year, the women can't make a finals, can't learn, progress or even entice factory teams to pursue female athlete development. The opportunity for exposure that doesn't involve Pit Vipers, spandex and straddling a parked bike at a local park is so limited.
