Spotted: Brook Macdonald's Prototype Trek Session 650b 8

Brook Macdonald just uploaded this little teaser on his Instagram account - the Session goes 650b (27.5-inch) and Brook seems pretty stoked about it! Could the new wheel size lead to time off the clock? With so many top Pros making the switch one has to assume so.

This new Trek Session prototype retains a similar look to the one we gave Bike of the Year back in 2012, but the front triangle has a decidedly slimmer look to it. Could Trek have also updated the suspension based on rider feedback? We can speculate concerning geometry and what not, but they are obviously staying true to the Active Braking Pivot layout.

The fork is a 650b-specific FOX 40 (available commercially, check out our First Look feature from last year for more details), while the shock appears to be an updated version of the RAD prototype we first spotted on Greg Minnaar's Worlds bike in Pietermaritzburg last year.

UPDATE: Thanks to a tip from @pee_cee on instagram, we learned that Brook's fellow Trek World Racing team member George Brannigan is also racing the new prototype this weekend in New Zealand.

More as we get it!

UPDATE 2-16-14

Brook just posted another pic w/ the following caption - "Solid weekend on this fine peace of machine 5th in finals and first week/weekend back on the DH bike room to improve now back into it stoooookkkkkkeeeddd #650b #fast"
