2010 Yeti Tribe Gathering

TRIBE GATHERING!

The Yeti Tribe Gathering is selling out quickly, so if you're interested in joining us this year for our 25th Anniversary celebration, click the link below and get signed up. We have also added more detailed information, so check it out and let us know if you have any questions. Order your pass online.

LOCATION: The Tribe Gathering headquarters will be located about a 4 mile bike ride and 11 mile drive from downtown Durango. We will be on private land, so we are going to keep the location on the DL until check-in. We will be within riding distance of some great trails (hint Singlespeed World Championships took place here in 2009) so you will be able to ride your bike on some amazing singletrack as soon as you arrive.

Check-in for the event will take place at 2nd Avenue Sports. From 550, take College Avenue east and then 2nd Avenue north (left). 2nd Avenue Sports will be on your right! Park in their lot and come on in to pick up your Tribe pass, schwag, directions to the headquarters, and map of trails. Check-in will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 13 and go until 5 p.m.

CAMPING: Tents, RV's, Pop-Ups, 5th Wheels, Vanagans, you name it, you can bring it. Please confirm by August 6 to srawley@yeticycles.com if you are bringing anything other than a tent as we will be designating pull-outs for them. This year, vehicles will not be permitted within the actual camping grounds at any time. They will be parked alongside the property on a county road, so you will not be more than a couple hundred feet from your vehicle. But be prepared to carry your camping goods to your site.

If you are looking for accommodations that include a roof over your head, there are plenty of lodging options in the Durango area. If you have specific questions on lodging in reference to proximity of event headquarters/rides, send srawley@yeticycles.com an email for more information.

RIDES- WHAT TO EXPECT: Saturday will be the big group ride, and we're lucky to be in close proximity of the Colorado Trail. This piece of trail stretches across most of the state of Colorado, starting outside of Denver and ending in Durango, and represents the best riding in Colorado. Hermosa Tours will be shuttling everyone from event headquarters to a drop-off point up Junction Creek Road. The main group ride will ride from the drop-off point on Junction Creek Road, 3 miles to where the Colorado Trail intersects. You where you will enjoy 23 miles of uninterrupted singletrack and less than 2000 feet of climbing. Estimated ride time is 3-4.5 hours including a few stops to take pictures and regroup. Here is a profile of the ride!

Here is a small taste for what you're in for from our scouting mission with the guys from Hermosa Tours and Second Avenue Sports: http://blog.hermosatours.net/2010/06/yeti-tribe-gathering-scouting-mission.html

For those looking for a gnarly, advanced ride, you can head further up Junction Creek Road to tap into the Colorado Trail near Kennebec Pass. This ride will be unassisted, but very doable with advanced riding skills. Only riders departing in the first shuttle group will be able to do this ride, as inclement weather is a factor in high country riding.

Beginners looking to explore some trails without riding in a big group can either explore the trails surrounding the event headquarters, or be dropped off at the bottom of the Colorado Trail to ride up from the bottom and explore some of the Log Chutes trails. The end of the Colorado Trail is only a 4 mile gradual downhill ride into town and then a 4 mile ride back up to the event headquarters. If you would like to position a vehicle at the bottom of the trail so you can drive back, we can pick you up at the bottom when we pick up beginners. There will not be a shuttle back to town.

WHAT TO BRING:
Your Yeti and all your biking essentials

CAMPING GEAR:
Water- this is essential because it will be hot and dry! There will be some water available on-site, but everyone is responsible to bring all the water they will need for riding. There is a City Market and Albertsons on your way from 2nd Avenue Sports to the event headquarters, so be sure to swing by and pick up some gallons for you and your crew!
Riding food- we will be providing dinner and breakfast Friday night through Sunday morning, any snacks, riding food, riding beverages you prefer, be sure to bring!
Rain Jacket- summer thunderstorms are likely
Bug spray and LOTS of it!

MAP: We have partnered with Singletrack Maps to provide one the best maps of the areas for our weekend in Durango. You can use this for rides on Friday and on Sunday. Other good choices for Sunday's ride includes Hermosa Creek area. This is approximately a 1 hour drive to the top or a 30 minute drive to the bottom. Hermosa Creek is a great ride for all abilities, but does require a little extra shuttling.

EATS: Friday evening, RGP's Wraps will be serving up flame-grilled pizzas and Ska Brewing will be pouring the draft. Be sure to hang on to your pint glass for the weekend, as this will be your primary vessel for beverage consumption. Saturday morning RGP's Wrap's will be delivering their famous breakfast burritos on-site, chock full of eggs, veggies, and meats to keep you fueled through the ride. Zia Taqueria will be on-site Saturday evening at 5 p.m. with a full breakfast burrito bar and Ska Brewing will be back to keep the party going into the night. Durango Doughworks will be on-site Sunday morning with breakfast burritos, egg sandwiches and organic doughnuts to get you back out there. We will be able to coverage some special dietary needs, but not all, so if you require anything more than being a vegetarian, please be prepared to provide your own meals or bring additions.
