Hey guys, I'm a broke college student that is looking for some new riding gear. Specifically, shorts and maybe some pants. Does anyone have any recommendations for budget apparel? As in as cheap as possible while still being quality. Does not have to be an MTB specific brand, so long as they work for riding.

With regard to shorts, I am really looking for a pair with dual zippered front pockets. I have an old set of Fly Racing shorts with these, however they have been discontinued. I cannot find a set of reasonably priced shorts with dual zippered pockets for the life of me, and am thinking of just ordering a set of gym shorts or similar with dual zippers that aren't mtb specific. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wrangler stretch outdoor shorts. They have zipper cargo pockets which are cool obviously.

dewalt safety glasses $4 on Amazon

mechanics gloves

Fruit of the loom micro mesh underwear

t shirt

edit- TLD skyline shorts are on sale for $44 on their site… definitely worth it at that price

Try steepandcheap.com

They have some good prices on Troy Lee gear at the moment.

Fly racing has some pants you can get for like 25 bucks on Jenson.  They only have one zippered pocket but they work well enough.

Closeout season is upon us (kinda already is) so stay tuned to the major online retailers and local shops. Spring collections are gonna start going off price, SALE climate will popup on every piece of kit, making up reasons to buy "Summer sale" and "BACK TO SCHOOL sale" you name it. The vital MTB deals and banner ads have a lot of info on name brand kit at discounted prices as long as you don't want the latest color/styles.

686, which is mainly a snow sports company makes some of the best all around pants I’ve ever found. Their everywhere lightweight pant is perfect for riding and doubles as a nice and comfortable pair of pants for casual wear. They’re not super cheap ($90 a pair) but are cheaper than most mtb pants and double as something you can wear to class/work. The non-lightweight version are also great for riding in temps under 60° and are super durable. As far as shirts go, check steep and cheap for any performance fabric tees. Got some nice Patagonia shirts for like $15 a piece last year

Going to revive this thread, I just got some wrangler ATG pants and target brand flannel shirts for winter riding gear and so far they're great. Got 2 pairs of pants and 2 shirts for a total of $84, which is the same as some pants on sale.

The most impressive thing about this thread revival is the thread was started... Before you made your account. That is like holy prophet levels of revival.

I'll also chime in that I basically go to Ross and shop for Adidas stuff and it's my favorite riding gear by far. A lot of it has zippered pockets. You're basically looking for more 'running gear' or even soccer stuff, and less basketball or basic gym stuff.

Wrangler ATG's are the shit; I wear them to work, and go ride in them on lunch break. Perfect riding pants.

Also gonna shout out 32 Degrees tech tees. Great material and fit, like $6 each. Low key too, so you don't have to look like a dweeb when you're out and about post ride.
