Ooooh, @adamdigby with some exciting news out of the Southwest!

Pre-Season race chat is in full swing on the freshly launched Gravity Coop's Hot Seat Podcast.  We just had US Elite Women's Pro Mazie Hayden on the podcast this week for episode three where she officially announces her new all women's downhill team for 2024, GT Wild Rye!  The team is stacked with Sarah Hamlin in the junior ranks and Riley Miller (3rd place finisher at Leogang WC last year in Junior Women) along with Mazie rounding out the roster.

Mazie has a really interesting background in Ski Cross racing too, take a listen here:  https://open.spotify.com/episode/4eEiYu1HSyClT4whOrivJa?si=CVmzVSvHRHeEZQkmHVT1FA

Is it time for the opening round of the Monster Energy Pro Downhill Series yet?!?

It's crazy how some offseason event in Australia (no offense - Cannonball looks rad AF) manages to pay out a gigantic combined price pool of $120k to the winners. While the freakin' UCI, the global governing body for cycling sports no less, splits a measly 10k € between the Top 20 at an official DH Worldcup race. Shame on you, UCI.

Well, to be fair $120k AUS is about €37.50 right now. (I kid, I kid! No need to send marsupial assassins after me!)

pov with hauser and lachie from NZ nationals 2 with live timing link below too. apparently it's dumping rain, so it should be interesting.

live timing - https://my.raceresult.com/276281/ - use pulldowns to select different classes.

@sspomer, Marathon MTB World Championships will be at Snowshoe September 21st-22nd!  A bit of a consolation prize for not getting the DHI and XCO World Cup rounds this season...

So today cycling coverage started on Max/BR Sports, I watched stage 1 of the women's Tour of UAE while I was riding the trainer.  Seemed like the same GCN/Eurosport crew from the road as last year.  Worked great on the Max app on my Apple TV, and a full replay was available, so hopefully the same will be true for XC/DH.

FYI, if you have certain mobile phone plans with Cricket and Verizon you can get Max free or discounted.

My money is the UCI racing will be absorbed into the Kayo app / package for the Australian market.

thanks for the screenshots of what's posted. and rad they have replays. seems impossible that they would live stream something and not have it available for replay.

Just as an FYI: No mountain biking on the sports page as of yet... but they do at least have a "cycling" category. Appears to be all road and BMX racing at this point.

Hope so, I VPN'd in too to see how much it would cost, about $30 Aussie dollarbucks a month once they remove the free bit, and that's the plan "with ads", very expensive DH season just to watch... and then if there are no replays? Seems kinda pointless.

I know people like to whinge about no more RBTV, and people like to whinge about people whinging about no more RBTV, but they are making it pretty damned hard to watch.

Just to preface this post, I did ride a bike this weekend :D

With that out of the way, I've managed to stuff hours of racing screen time in. BMX world cup round 1 from Rotorua (on Max, the sports extension is no additional charge for a limited time) and Supercross round 6 from Glendale (on Peacock). What's that got to do with mountain biking? That's my question.

The BMX coverage is really surprising to me. They don't mention the sponsors. When they talk about the racers, the biography is nationality, race results in national series, previous would cup results. They don't mention the bikes! It started pouring during the women's semis and commentator #1 (excited guy) asked commentator #2 (knowledgeable guy) about tire changes, and commentator #2 shot him down so fast :D Super simple production because knowledgeable guy only has 40 seconds to describe the lap, another chance during the replay to point out details.

I won't belabor describing the current SX style of broadcast which so many here will be familiar with, but to grab a couple examples there's an entire crew of commentators who all clearly practice saying "monsterenergystarracingyamaha" during the week while the producers are coming up with supplementary content on clutch tuning and social media recaps to slip into the broadcast on the fly depending on the pacing and action of the race. Highly orchestrated production.

Pro (gravity) mountain biking seems to me to need to figure out what kind of show it wants to be.

Trying to carry the broadcast by being excited the whole time is a big ask, especially in disciplines where the riders aren't always in view. The commentators are watching a screen just like we are. "He's up at split 1 !!1! .. oh actually he's down at split 3 he must have lost some time somewhere!" Yessir, that is how time works. Let's throw it over to Beaker and Professor Bunsen to tell you about how "kinematics" might be a factor in that rock garden!

Just heard from a friend producer that EMG Belgium is going to be involved in the broadcasting of the mountain bike world cups, XC, Enduro and DH. They have an immense experience in broadcasting big sports events like the Tour De France, Olympics, World Cups and Championship Cyclocross etcetera... So hopefully the get the budget to show their expertise...

Two more weekends with no East Coast USDH races to go before the opening round of Downhill Southeast at the Trials Training Center in Southeast Tennessee... The Gravity Cooperative Crew has been busy on the podcast talking to key USDH players as they prep for liftoff in 2024.  We had Ryan Pinkerton on the podcast this week and I can say the kid is absolutely ready to crush it in Elite this year on the new Mondraker Factory Racing team.  Check out the episode on any podcast platform.  https://open.spotify.com/episode/14NFktipou0aROyYqHLA6r?si=7sgVbv2cSrmmoff2SvKxgA

Who think's Pinky has a podium performance in him this year on the World Cup circuit?

so silly they don't run in fastest last.

Top 20 drop in time, elite men

Thredbo can have it's weather turn in the blink of an eye, so if a storm rolls in early or late it will wreck havoc. Also the wind there can be insane. Last year they started a third the way down pretty much.
