As much as I would love to see equal pay-out, doesn't it just come down to the amount of entries per category? If the XCO category gets for instance 40% more riders/race entry fees throughout the year/season, I'd imagine they base their payout according to the same proportion?
Again, I'd love to see everyone being paid equal, and I don't know if my above thought is true, I'd just think that would be the only excusable reasoning for this.
My thought was also that XCO is an Olympic sport, which gives it more kudos. You would think that DH should pay better than E-MTB & no wonder Wyn had a crack at E-MTB at last years champs.
Is also interesting that the World Cups pay equal for XC and DH and it’s just the champs which pay out greater for XC.
Yeah but what about the risks? Guys, we all know that DH comes with a lot more risks than XC. I don't say XC is not a demanding sport, it is, obviously.
But If you want to go for gold on worlds you have to be really 110%, and with the evolution of DH racing these years (higher speed tracks, technical terrain, huge AND sketchy jumps), this event is about taking a lot of risks. And failing could take a huge toll on your health (and career). Do riders know about this risk? Yes they do. Do they train f***in hard all year long to limit their injuries in case of a crash? Yes they do. Do they dedicate their life to their sport? Yes they do. They are athletes, FFS.
It really seems unfair to me. Again, I don't say XC doesn't deserve its prize money, I'm just fed up with the UCI (and olympic comitee, btw) depreciating DH because "it's just about going downhill fast".
