Hello,

I recently bought a Marin Quad Trail Wolf-ridge 140 (08) second hand on ebay...

When I came to change the rear innertube i found that the rear maxle had seized

In short I had to replace the rear hope pro 2 axle and the rear thru axle.

I don't know what the original was, so I bought a 'RockShox Rear Maxle Lite 135mm x 12mm' which fits fine...

However, my question is: Is a maxle light suited to enduro/freeride/mtb or should I have a maxle ultimate

I also replaced the front maxle which only seem to come in the light version...

Cheers

Good Question. Yes the axle you bought is suited for enduro. The lite just refers to the handle interface, and that the LITE is slightly lighter than the newer maxle ultimate. In general, the rear axle is supported by the frame more than the front axle is, so the use of a larger diameter isn't needed. There is also the fact that a larger axle wouldn't allow for the small 10 or 11 tooth cog on the cassette.

And be sure to liberally grease it when you install it so that it doesn't seize again!

Thanks for the help and advice.

I was just a bit worried because the maxle light didn't specifically state it as mtb whereas the maxle ultimate did??? - are there any other differences between them apart from weight?

The bike shop greased it for me! Wink

They told me the reason it had seized was because someone had used lithium grease which reacted with the metal and kind of welded it together!?

Can anyone explain why the hope pro 2 axle i bought looks different from the original one i had. Has the design changed? The original one looks more like the hope pro 2 evo, but mine is not an evo?

Thanks
