At some point she did stop riding a Juliana and switch to a "normally" branded Santa Cruz V10, and she is often in the Syndicate pits. Could be a thing.

What's in it for a gear brand to partner with a guy that has basically said 'race pants' are not good?

That's a stretch. He hasn't tried TLD Ultra pants...also, We have had Brandon Semenuk for almost a decade, jeans guy, we've learned enough about denim.

Love you Stik but this is a bit of a misread IMO.

I can go to TJ Max and get a super durable pair of jeans for about $20. They'll outlast any DH pant I've ever had.

Do they function as well? Heck no! They don't breath, are heavy and can cause some serious chafing issues!

He was just being honest, and explaining why he races in jeans. As home_piece said, it could be an opportunity for a soft goods company, especially if he finds his way onto the podium next year. You could also make some seriously funny jokes with this one...a race kit that looks like a Canadian Tuxedo?! LOL! (and still way better than Fox's zebra print!)

Either way, there is an opportunity here, just have to put the right lens on it.

My $0.02.

Maybe the Denim Destroyer gets hooked up with one of those ultra hip Jeans companies and is seen with bedazzled gems on the pockets...

Nina has earned a factory ride from Santa Cruz even if they think she’s a little ways out from being officially apart of the syndicate. Caribou has gone big this year in part thanks to scott’s Support. Would be great for sport if more companies would start sponsoring women without them needing to be a race winner

Whoa. First off, that's a goober statement. I've been in DH since day 1. We went from wearing all spandex to trials riders getting us into Hammer lower leg neoprene mega-thick "pads" to JT Racing adding rubbery knee "pads" to a set of knee warmers to motocross pants with massive welded logos as "pads" with shin pads underneath to cut motocross pants with Dainese bibs under them to skate style knee pads under moto pants to suddenly pre-cut moto style DH shorts with Kyle Strait pads and/or Dainese "now separate" knee pads to legit DH shorts without all the pads & the ability to pedal in them back to DH pants that were still sort of overbuilt, then to "too thin" DH pants to now 50 different variations of thin/stretchy/durable/wicking/welded/sublimated/ripstop enhanced DH pants mixed with the option of water resistant DH pants and even totally waterproof/yet breathable onesie style suits that are also DH pants built in...

....to YOU coming full circle talking like DH pants haven't evolved to the point of pure awe and having more options under the sun than hairs on a rhino's ballsack?

Seriously, the world of "stir shit up and act like we got it all wrong until tomorrow's idea" that you live in is so damn assanine. That you could even be triggered to respond about DH race pants in that manner all cause some dude wore a lighter coolered version of Chuch Norris 1975 kickboxing stretch jeans...is ABSURD!!! Go sit over there!

"triggered" is right, holy smokes man.

Prediction: Canadian jrs continue to crush it with minimal factory support.

YT has to be getting something together in the works. I know they went for a back to basics approach but other than Vali the Tues is gone from view. They must have noted sales drop off. Maybe form a SRAM squad with Trummer, Vali and Angel (if he can stay on the bike for a full season, poor guys) and maybe another Jr? Or a whole new team.

Where's Vali's contract at anyway? She'll be high on any teams list in the coming years if she stays healthy since she's placing well in the elite Women's before she's even in the category. Stay on YT or will specialized or trek throw down some $$$

3 of them have factory rides, Jameson, Cruz and Shandro. If Intense and Devinci are smart they give Seth and Patrick rides for next year.

Check out the YT Young Talent camps videos, pretty much explained in those. Took a year away from world cups, spent that money finding some new junior riders from various parts of the world.

I really hope all the " {top rider name} goes to Huffy/Schwinn/Mongoose/etc" posts end. It was no longer funny in 2015 and that's not likely to change today or the next decade.

And yet here we are with Hyper parading around as Huffy and you act like it isn't happening?

Silverback sends you a shot of Towball riding his bike around barefoot, and that’s a #teamrumor? C’mon Spomer, we expect better.

PS, all I really care about is where Nina and Vali end up next year.. is women’s racing more exciting than the men’s these days or what?

PPS, let’s all remember in January, when this is all said and done, for the 2020 season, #teamrumors started were it mattered most: with jeans.

Pretty sure Vali signed a 10-year contract with YT when she was 12, but I'll confirm.

The only two who might really matter are Vali and Thibaut Dapréla.

Lucas Cruz and Kye Ahern are moving into seniors, from Jrs.

God, the bickering has already started and we are only on page 2!!

Palmer has already done the jeans after his fall out with Fox, nothing new there...

Already a lot of people’s own thoughts and speculation..

Let’s keep it purely facts, back it up with proof..

Palmer did one race in jeans...I would know, I gave him my sharpie to mark them up with specialized logos, and he wore them to make a point, not because they were awesome. His point being; "one dude changed the whole game, and got everyone in moto pants, me".

Yip, I’m pretty aware he did only one race in them. Wasn’t the point I was trying to make. It’s no big deal what riders wear... as long as they feel comfortable. I don’t know why people were making a big deal about jeans. I know Plamer was trying to make his point to his then sponsors at the time and he looked awesome doing it... so they were awesome jeans.

I am surprised this hasn't been said earlier, as this is one of the more interesting parts in the history of our still young sport; how the top marketable athlete at the time used whatever he had handy (in this case a borrowed sharpie) as leverage in a contract negotiation. I mean, we are still talking about it exactly 21 years later; that's quite some power in a sharpie! Wink I would really like to find out if it's true that Fox ended up paying him more than he initially asked or if that is only folklore... And I do hope Palmer is well somewhere around Tahoe!

As for actual team rumour talk, I like Johannes a ton, but I think this Denim Destroyer thing is getting old and boring. It was nice at the beginning, the point was made here too, the discussion created (here we are...), but now I think he is only reinforcing his privateer brand, maybe to create more leverage for future contract discussions. But Commencal already used his image in a recent clip, so it must be true that there is a bond there. Because I don't think they tricked him into doing things for free for them. So I'm jumping the ”Johannes von Klebelsberg to Commencal 100%” wagon.

As for jeans being ”better” for DH racing... Mhm, right!
