Prototype 2015 Specialized Demo?

Edited Date/Time 8/18/2014 12:09pm
Say hello to the new full carbon Demo! New suspension design with rearward axle path and concentric bottom bracket pivot point. Carbon chain stays + seat stays, with asymmetric seat tube wrapping around the Ohlins shock. Internal cable routing. Snapped a few days ago!

whose bike is that? looks like a carbon version of this one from last year:

Yup it's the same frame geometry and suspension setup as the earlier photos taken last year. They do all of the geometry and suspension development in alloy. Once the carbon molds are produced they are usually very close to production.

This is the first image that shows Demo markings - there was no confirmation that the earlier photos were of a Demo.

It looks like there is green paint around the Ohlins shock and near one of the pivot points. This may in fact be a full production frame with factory paint, obfuscated with a black coating or laminate (notice the ripples near the demo logo in the second pic).

I'm surprised no one mentioned the cracked back rim. Big crack towards the bottomSad in the first picture.

In the 4th shot, looking from the rear of the bike it appears that the seat tube is only supported from the right side. There's obviously something about the structure around the shock that they're trying to keep hidden in the prototype.

I'm surprised to see them get away from the rear shock yolk, it was very effective at making the bike extra plush in the first part of the travel. Curious to see what the final production model will look like. This would be the first major rework of the Demo in a number of years!

Any idea what "FACT" means there? Faction? Factory? Something else?

New pic of seeming finished marketing shot of the 650b Carbon Demo: link to write-up over at Bike Rumor http://www.bikerumor.com/2014/07/28/spy-shots-new-prototype-specialized-downhill-bikes-found-in-wild/

Same photo, but I adjusted the levels.

Cropped overlay (50% opacity)

Depending on sag, it would appear the BB height is a bit higher.

If you are not interested in the shock that comes with the bike, they give you enough space to install other options. I personally have the 2013 carbon Demo, and the shock I wanted to run would not fit.

Additionally, having an open side lets me keep the bike cleaner.

The 2015 is a lot longer than the 2014 models... and no more small size. A mistake IMO:

- plenty of people buy carbon demos and ride tighter technical tracks / park
- large parts of the world have much shorter average rider heights
- women and juniors tend to go the smaller sizes

I was super pumped about getting the 2015 model. Not too sure about that now having seen the geometry =/

Well I'm guessing it might be because of the 650b wheels

I created the overlay using one of the aluminum 2015 Demos, which is 650b. I'm not disagreeing, I just don't think that is a factor.

Concerning your point about the missing Small size, even on technical steep tracks aggressive riders tend to favor a longer reach (myself included). Plus any of my friends that were over 6' felt a bit cramped on their Large Demo. I heard more complaints about riders wanting a larger size rather than people wanting a small.

But, I guess this is why they kept the "older" frame design in aluminum. Small will still be available there.
