What a fantastic race weekend with the first World Cup Downhill of 2024 taking place at Fort William, Scotland. In other historic news, Vital's first-ever Downhill Fantasy game let you, the DH fan, try to build a winning race team in hopes of snagging prizes from RockShox, Troy Lee Designs, FSA, Maxxis and Vital. We had nearly 3,300 people participate with all team-building strategies thrown at the board. Race day finals were dramatic as plenty of big-timers didn't make it through semi-finals, meaning last-minute team tweaking could pay off. When the race results were in, the Fantasy results were tallied up revealing game winners and team selections. Check out how 1st through 5th earned their prizes.
1st Place, alicdh
alicDH had a high-volume squad with some smart choices that included a few inexpensive riders who scored valuable points. Going with a large Elite Men's selection, Junior Men were stacked up on the team too. Picking outlier, Gloria Scarsi, in Elite Women netted 120 points toward a winning total of 1,680. Like a lot of us, however, alicDH suffered the fate of no points with Austin Dooley's DNF and Luke Meier-Smith's DSQ. The picks, however, propelled this player to the top of the game and history as our first-ever winner. A RockShox BoXXer is the reward!
2nd Place, almostsendy
With a questionable avatar, almostsendy wins a Troy Lee Designs D4 helmet thanks to team picks that earned 1,669 points and 2nd place. Another player with a massive squad, almostsendy scored 60 points through Heather Wilson's Junior win and tallied up a big score through well-placing picks. Austin Dooley and Luke Meier-Smith also snuck in to rob the tally of valuable points, just like alicDH.
3rd Place, onthewhiskey
Another historic moment in Vital Downhill Fantasy comes in the form of a tie. onthewhiskey and eiz both earned 1632 points despite having different teams. As our rules state, in the case of a tie, the player who locked in their team earliest takes the win. Timestamps indicate that onthewhiskey posted picks on May 2 while eiz was on May 3. onthewhiskey takes home an FSA Gradient 35 bar and stem combo for the effort!
4th Place, eiz
If eiz made predictions 5 hours earlier, the results may have been different. Regardless Maxxis will be sending two mountain bike tires for a successful roster that landed in 4th place. eiz ain't scared of flat pedals with Connor Fearon on the squad. Another valuable Gloria Scarsi choice netted valuable points while Luke Waymand and Daniel Parfitt picks were great dollar-per-point values.
5th Place, segamethod
segamethod was hot on the heels of 3rd and 4th place with a 1,609 point total. With a smaller team, he went big on Elite Men choices, but managed to make strong points with a solid roster. As Schroeder said in the pre-race Fantasy show, the Vital T shirt may be the most valubable prize of the game considering its scarcity.
Thanks to all who played! We're stoked to turn on game 2 for the World Cup DH in Poland next week. It's a brand new track and venue, so who knows what the results will bring. Rider values will be changing, and you'll have a chance to build another team for victory, mediocrity or failure.
