Reece Wilson, the current UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Champion, had what appeared to be the crash-to-end-all-crashes during a spectacular race run in Les Gets, France this weekend. The thing is, he walked without any major injury. As Reece neared the end of his soaking wet race run, he exited the final woods, hitting the "Creek Gap" jump. Reece's speed into the jump was blistering, but as we learn from his interview, his composure going into the jump was upset by a root and his body was not able to suck up the G-forces compressing both bike and body through the lip of the jump. The result was a sensational no-handed-clipped-in-buck-and-roll that stopped the hearts of everyone watching the race. Reece, however, was ready for the impact. He understood that his commitment to such race speed may not result in riding away triumphant from a successful jump. He stayed loose, took the hit and somehow got up and rode down to the finish line.
Let the champ do the talking as our heart-rates continue to come down. Thanks to Sven Martin for organizing this interview
