Back in 2000 I was telling people that eventually we'd have bikes with six inches of travel front and rear that pedaled well and weighed 30 lbs. That's what we now have...and I'm perfectly happy with that. Bikes have changed a lot in the last 20 years, but they're basically still the same. Some parts have gained more functionality(seatposts) and angles have changed, but advances in things like electronics technology(as mentioned by one person) are irrelevant to me since I see no need to drop cables. I like that bikes are mechanical systems and it's likely that my bike will always be that way. Just like anything else, it gets harder to improve on things the more improvements have been made. People will keep trying though, and that's a good thing.

If you're over 6'3" there are now two (two!) companies who make a production bike that will fit you. Progress.

Unfortunately, I can't really see that changing a whole lot anytime soon. 6'4" would put you in the 99th percentile for male height, so there probably just isn't enough of a market for it to cover the development costs especially for smaller brands.

At 6'7" I agree wholeheartedly with you, though I think there might be a couple more than that by now. And that's why, before reaches started growing, I just started building my own steel frames. But not everyone can do that. That's why advances like the ease of customization offered by additive manufacturing like at Atherton Bikes is so important for us lengthy riders.

I forgot one thing...gearboxes. I'm really hoping that that's the advance that we see. A gearbox that doesn't have too much drag and gives us a 6x gear range with good steps in between. That would be a great advancement.
