I kind of touched on this below. I do agree the bikes are heavier than we'd like to see, but the truth is these bikes are still running the same parts as your heavier longer travel bike such as...

Tires; you could get away with EXO, but with less travel its...more

^this - like the vid said, for pumpy, fast, flowing terrain, the aggressive 120mm bikes shine. 160mm bikes aren't as playful in such terrain. actual XC bikes (or downc&%$try) aren't there in the geo department or "stoutness" either. seat tubes are often to...more

Having ridden this type of bike, its not just weight, its the feel the bike gives the rider. Put another way, one could argue having a 500 horse power trophy truck is just the same as having a 500 horsepower sports car in that they are both fast.

...but one...more

Sorry, but no.

This is the same old adage of people going "VPP has this type of leverage ratio curve (the upside down U)". As we've seen in the current crop of VPP bikes, this is not true. There is a reason the engineers at SC designed the old VPP stuff this...more

Eh, I'll disagree with that. While it is somewhat progressive in the first part of the travel, the ultimate leverage ratio curve is one that is fairly linear by today's standards.

What this means is the bike will be somewhat supple off the top while holding the...more

My 27.5 "Enduro" bike is proudly 37.4lbs with coil F&R suspension. My former 2020 SC AXS X01 Reserve Hightower was 34.3# with trail casing tires. Don't believe published weights.

Jeff, slow people don't need heavy tires, strong wheels, or real brakes. This, in turn, makes their bikes much lighter.

Cheers, guys. Truly honored by all the support and kind words from the MTB community.

It's been an incredible decade covering the scene and testing bikes for the world to see. Thanks to everyone that aided the efforts and tuned into the many features Vital and I created over the years. It takes a team, and...more

Maybe you should have said "progressive"? No argument that there are bikes with steeper STA's.

But 76/65 and 76.5/65.5 are modern numbers, especially for a 130mm trail bike. I wouldn't say those two bikes were apples to apples with the Stumpy. Both are more travel, the TR I believe a review said was a "mini enduro" bike. The 141 literally "is" a mini enduro bike since it's mostly a 161 with a tweak and shorter travel. So those two are probably somewhere between the new Stumpy and the Stumpy Evo. But for sure someone might consider all of them as their next trail bike. Pluses and minuses to all of them...

Something to keep in mind, a significant number of mountain bikers don't want a 78.8* STA. Now maybe in 5 or 10 years they will? IDK.

"A 500ish reach and 76ish degree STA is going to put a tall rider to far back for a trail bike when climbing IMO."

My experience on a bike with 76ish STA and 500 reach would not support that opinion... I think that might be an interesting "poll"' to see how many riders agree with you.

Who's "today's standards" are you referring to? Seems pretty comparable to similar travel bikes?

I'll bet a TON of people are going to buy the aluminum model and over fork it. (190x45 shock seems like there is a travel limiter in the shock that might free the rear end up a bit if tire and ST clearance plays out?)

It can take over for the MIA Smuggler... smile

Huh? You can still get a Stumpy EVO or Enduro if adherence to FSR is a must. Just like on the Epic, this was done in the name of weight savings at the shorter-travel end of the spectrum.

I didn't use any tire casings at all. Just ran it on the rims to get as close to that old 26" feeling as possible. w00t
