Added a comment about feature New 'Metric' Shock Sizes Demystified - What Does It Mean? 4/1/2016 12:05 AM
stiingya

See this is just another way for the bike industry to make money off of us. First they'll go Metric sizing. Then in a few years it will be Geometric sizing after that it will be "hip" for everyone to base sizing in Atomic Units so that shock effeciency can be measured in Gravitational float.

But the bull crap is that everyone already knows Quantum Electrodynamic Units is going to be the optinum way to base shock sizing in the future. So why don't they just jump ahead now instead of making us upgrade and buy new shocks and new bikes every few years....? GREED, that's why...

I mean do you realize you could buy a used motorcycle for the cost of a decent mountain bike these days...?

Actually, I bet switching to metric sizing right when so many people are against BOOST is just a way for them to make sure were upgrading our frames to match the new shocks and they will just "happen" to have BOOST included as well... Conspiracy I say! The shock companies are being backed by the hub/wheel manufacturers because they have huge stock piles of boost hubs that aren't selling!

Is the reason it's heavier than most compatible travel bikes because they swapped out the link(s) and used a shorter fork on a Troy frame? Lame they went all the way back to 725 bars...

Funny, the Troy started as a trail bike. Kept getting pushed to all mountain with geo and build and all the way with this years frame update. Then they needed to fill the gap they created with a new trail bike! smile

Specialized did a similar thing with the stumpjumper when they made them all "EVO" and needed to fill the gap they made with the camber... '

Trek kind of did the same thing with the Remedy. It was a long travel trail bike, then all mountain bike, then back to a long travel trail bike. And they've had to introduce a few models over the years to make up for the "gaps"!

There you go again Vital, testing a bike us "non dentist" types might also be able to afford... Love VitalMtb testing/reviews. Just seem "real". Like your not swayed by who's patent is on the linkage, which brand is on the downtube or what bike company happens to be trendy at the moment. Nice to see the shock upgrade mentioned/recommended. Really interesting that there is "still" a square edge hit issue with the new suspension kinematics/shock tune. Decisions...

Since you mention the metal. I wonder how SC will spec the Aluminum version? I've been close to ordering this build with the shock upgrade a couple times. But then I look at the XT or X01 builds and think I should wait and keep saving. But "if" they offer the aluminum in an XT or X01 build and it comes in a grand cheaper than it will be super hard to resist ordering that up!

BUT, You look at the poor, sad, lonely, deprived Heckler and see what kind of builds SC offers.... LAME! no SUPER LAME! The Heckler may not be anywhere near as "refined" as a Bronson. But it is every bit as fun and EXTREMELY capable. EXCEPT that they throw a straight jacket on the bike by only offering it with low end builds. (which makes no sense, Just go down the isle in the warehouse and grab a higher end build kit from a Bronson and build the Heckler with some DIGNITY!

Anyway, rant over. And sure they sell frames too, build it how I want, etc. And I guess if the rims have issues I may need to take another look at that option. Or keep saving... Or go to dentist school? smile

Only seen a few Atherton bits. But so far havent seen any red Slash builds. These guys showed a black remedy or EX refereed to someones "XC bike". Anyway just wondering if anyone else has seen an Atherton slash? Dan at least should have one buit up for sure. And just that I wondered "IF" the reason I haven't seen a "red" Slash build MIGHT be that there is some testing/prototyping going on....?

One can hope... smile

Funny how Gee gets so much grief. Winners are focused and often very serious. This guy puts so much work in and sacrifices a great deal out of his daily life to chase tenths a of seconds only to get crappy commentary from Internet aficionados. Kind of a bummer,...more

Plus they can hand lay up/finish a prototype. Cost a ton in man hours. But still WAY cheaper than molds?

Haha. You asked: "How does a bike have a generous reach, but then have a slightly short top tube measurement?"

The answer to that is a steep seat tube angle.

As the name suggests, the Pike RC SoloAir on all SCB builds does in fact have externally adjustable (R)ebound and low-speed (C)ompression. It lacks the 3-position mode selector that you get on the RCT3, but you can still tune the overall firmness with the low-speed knob. I'm...more

cool helmet, but not sure it's a 100 dollars cooler than the competition?

I think it's awesome that companies are exploring new ways to protect from impacts. But it would be nice to see some 3rd party testing of their claims?

"The bike has a steep seat tube angle, which effectively lengthens the reach measurement while shortening the top tube."

Seat tube angle has no consideration on the reach measurement. Maybe you need to read the article? smile

Or maybe I just confused you with all my off base ramblings...?

I like how when only Specialized had access to Horst link, everyone hated it, claimed it sucked, etc. Now that their patents have expired, suddenly it's the best. Funny how that works. Although I do prefer it over VPP and DW-Link designs. To me, being active under braking is...more

How does a bike have a "generous reach", but then have a "slightly short top tube measurement"? it doesn't look like short top tube numbers to me?

If your testing this brand now, any idea when they will start selling in the U.S.?
