Brines and Eddie are right- this ain't a new problem at all. I speak from personal experience in the late 90's when I ate an extremely hard to get $600 on a plane ticket I couldn't use to travel to Italy, Slovenia, and France for 3 WC DH races. Why couldn't I go? Because my UCI...more

Can't speak for other countries, but if you're a US rider you pretty much need to be rich to get into World Cups. DH isn't a cheap sport, but traveling the country for 5 races that get you UCI points (and not even that many) is crazy. Expecting people to max out credit cards and...more

Agreed that it's pretty hopeless to get one shock tune that works across size runs and for most rider skill levels. In a perfect world, companies would either use different shock tunes for different sizes (Like Ibis "Roxy tune") or would use a slightly different shock mount for every size...more

Whether a company has a “stock” fox tune, or a custom tune (yeti, ibis, Norco) doesn’t really matter if it’s the same across the size range. Bolting the same shock on an xs all the way up to an xl, still leaves the ends of the spectrum at a disadvantage. Ibis did the roxy tune for a long...more

There are some fun descents around here but I can only think of three trails that are dh-bike-worthy and they are ~6hrs. north.

and here we are. commenting on a bicycle forum. about race. thus having a conversation about it.
whether you agree or not, having words like this in "seemingly useless or non-applicable place [ie - mt bikes]" gets more people talking about race. and not talking about...more

Thank you! Lots of subtle differences but the biggest thing I noticed is how the dw link remains more active in situations where the linkage-driven single pivot of the Meta tends to lock up a bit--I first felt it when putting power down on techy climbs, but it became really evident when leaning the bike through bombed-out, rutty corners--the bike just feels more composed and less choppy. That said, I can't really say how much of this is down to the coil, as this is my first coil and first dw bike.
Overall the Ibis feels more lively and rides a bit lighter than the Meta. I have noticed a little more flex in the AF, but it's worth the tradeoff.
