Reply to Flatlanders - how's that modern bike working for you? 7/2/2020 7:19 AM

I think avoiding a enormous wheelbase will be a big plus for the terrain you are riding. I've ridden/demoed pretty much every single long travel (140mm + travel) 29er over the last four years. You can certainly get used to a longer wheelbase, but like ... more »

Two things: First, the old Sentinel was the only "long travel" 29er (I've ridden pretty much all of them over the last four years) that I would have considered replacing my Evil Wreckoning with. It's only minor downside (which is a factor of most Horst-link ... more »

What kit and frame are you getting with the Smuggler for $3400? I personally would go for the Smuggler. The fork/dropper (either of them) will be adequate to get you rolling. It's far easy to trade up for better parts than it is to be stuck with a frame ... more »

Reply to Current Enduro Bikes, One bike to rule them all, or all hype? 1/30/2018 5:21 AM

If the "job" is to have the utmost confidence when plunging down some DH course or in fact be competitive in a DH race (Sam Hill's abilities notwithstanding) then the right "tool" is a DH bike. Otherwise, modern trail/enduro/all mountain (or whatever ... more »

Reply to Have You Gone from 27.5 to 29er But Then Back to 27.5? 12/14/2017 4:44 AM

I rode 27.5 bikes for the last four years and this May switched to a 29er. I have zero intentions of returning to a 27.5. That not say there are not some fantastic 27.5 bikes, but the pros for my riding with a 29 are not worth giving up.

Reply to Question for enduro racers: One day vs Multi day 8/30/2016 8:38 AM

I think at the World Cup and EWS pro levels the racing should be blind. It is art form to masterfully read a trail and choose lines. At most, a pre-ride video would be sent to all participants, but that's it.

Reply to Question for enduro racers: One day vs Multi day 8/30/2016 4:58 AM

One day events are certainly easier on the weekend warriors, however multi-day events in big mountain locations are more exciting to the hardcore racers. So basically both are okay by me. I generally am a volunteer these days allowing me to ride the

Invisibility would be cool, but in the meantime on a bike extended stoppies would be my choice. Working on them.

Reply to Have you seen many + / plus bikes on the trails? 5/9/2016 7:32 AM

Here in Georgia, I see a handful of them every week. They are mostly 27.5+ hard tails. There is a shop in Elijay that is big on plus and fat bikes too. I demoed one yesterday (Scott Genius +) and it was a lot of fun. That said, I would not want it as

These are from cyclocross racing, but many are hilarious and applicable.
