His trainer lives there and also runs the Norco DH team. Seems likely that he traveled without his bike and just borrowed one so he could go on the group ride.

While the main Commencal Vallnord team of Thirion and Nicole went back to their 275 bikes, Amaury Pierron stuck with his 29er and ended up 2nd in Val Di Sole. I'd wager the success/failure rate of the 29er in 2017 was in part a reflection of how quickly ... more »

Not usually one to show his hand in timed runs, but Sam still posted a 5th fastest 2nd split (3.6 sec back) and then appears to have cruised the last 30 seconds of the track that best suit his enduro bike. I'd say a shot at the podium isn't unrealistic ... more »

Keep in mind that development of dedicated DH apparel rather than repurposed moto gear was just taking form 8-10 years ago. Riders/teams' apparel sponsors do not make or sell skin suits, they want their riders wearing what they sell and be able to build ... more »

GM's bike also has different geo than previous? That might make it more comfortable but the fact that 29ers look horrible on track. If the UCI banned skinsuits because of image to the sport, they should ban the 29er as well. If/when all teams go 29er, ... more »

Casey Brown (5'3) and Katie Winton (5'2) have opted for 29ers the past 2 years. This whole 29er-is-unfair-to-short-people is, at this point, just internet myth. It clearly doesn't seem to apply with long travel enduro/all-mtn bikes, and no one under ... more »

Not interested in winning anything, just pointing out that the hyper focus on the 'fairness' of wheel diameter ignores the multitudes of ways that the current bikes would have to be considered 'unfair' as well using the same standard. It just doesn't ... more »

Can't believe I'm getting drawn into an internet hair-splitting debate but one last thought and I'm outta here: I think a good number of skeptics would be well served to tune into the EWS and look at the variance of bike setups. Sure, there aren't direct ... more »

would argue the fact that Greg gets more travel on his bike already tilts the argument towards "it probably does disadvantage shorter riders." I would argue there's a burden of proof in proving that the extra travel doesn't provide an advantage, or some ... more »

And just 1 on a 29er, on a track he's now won on 3 years running, and with almost identical time differentials within the top 5 on both 275 and 29. Perhaps this is all much ado about nothing? The only real takeaway from the weekend seems to be confirmation ... more »

Carbon and glue is what the rest of the frame is made of, several individually molded sections of carbon and glue attached to each other with yet more glue. Would be surprised if that top layer you can see in the pic isn't simply for aesthetics though. ... more »

In theory, factory teams always have an advantage over smaller teams in any sport. I see no reason to to brand this 'unfair.' It's the nature of racing. Reading some of the comments here you'd thing the 29er is going to ride itself down the hill, while ... more »

275 hasn't ruined DH racing (despite all the comment chatter that it surely would), can't see how 29 will either. Yeah so maybe it rolls faster and carries speed over the rough bits, but that extra speed still needs to be controlled so it's not like ... more »
