Freeride is a natural progression for riders who are less interested in the fitness aspect of cross country riding. Freeriders are forced to use their vision and ingenuity to create more advanced features to push their limits. From logrides to ladder drops, these features challenge riders both on the ground and in the air. With little vertical potential, some riders in the Midwest have brewed their own combination of cross country and freeride. We call it FreeCross!
The ideal setting for FreeCross is Scales Lake Park in Boonville, Indiana. Littered with steep spoil banks from decades of coal mining, the park has some of the most unique riding terrain in the world. Railing corners, tire-spinning climbs, and challenging features throughout the park have made the trails in this park some of the best around.
Each year, the Boonville Bike Club hosts a FreeCross race on the trails at Scales Lake Park. Named after the coal mine that left such great potential, the Red Dome FreeCross is a must-race for any midwestern rider looking to push their limits.
