Buy a dirtbike. Ride it on the track or trail. They're super fun to climb! Ride your MTB on MTB non-motorized trails.

The problem is they're GONNA HURT TRAIL ACCESS FOR MOUNTAINBIKING!

You're probably right in that e-bikes will get cheaper and better and than way more people will ride e-MTB. And we will lose...more

You do realize this is an opinion piece, right? The author is listed. The author isn't VitalMTB as a whole.

A case can be made either way depending on the marketing strategy. Considering E-bikes are almost entirely being sold by mountain bike companies, with current and aspiring mountain bikers as the sales demographic, they are marketed as bikes. I'm sure if E-bikes were being sold by motorbike companies with current, and aspiring moto demographics as the sales target, they would be marketed as motorbikes.

As far as I'm concerned there's no ambiguity. Motor+bike=motorbike. Just imagine if every pedal stroke a tiny gas engine sent a pulse of power to the rear wheel. Do you think the industry could get away with not calling them motorbikes? Does a battery powered electric motor really change this?

Would you please tell me what differentiates a mountain bike from a dirt bike, i.e. at what point does a bicycle become a motorcycle? I’m not necessarily opposed to ebikes but the fact that they have a motor, tiny or large, makes them a motorcycle of some sort and it’s an incorrect categorization to include them...more

A bike that turns everyone into Nino Schurter on climbs, allows beginners access to the highest (often rowdiest) trails and doubles the distance/trail degradation they can do in the same time is a completely different sport.

Yes I’ve ridden a couple. My comments stand.

Do you have any proof that it isn't true? from what I've seen i think he nailed it. Most pros only post pics and videos of e-bikes to please sponsors. kinda like how a lot of pros posted pics of fat bikes and plus sized tires in the past even though behind the scenes it was common knowledge that no pros used...more

There's already a sport for that: Real enduro. Dirt bikes. Of course the above would be fun, but MTB's are gonna be kicked of many trails in a heartbeat if that becomes the new norm. Think about it.

No, access to non-motorized trails in the US has been a nonstop struggle for 40yrs, and it is *not* on a singular trajectory towards getting better. There is a very militant anti-MTB lobby (spearheaded by no less than the Sierra Club, our most influential nature-advocacy group) and adding...more

Except for the part where MTB's aren't allowed on many trails in the future because of way way more bike traffic. Also, the barrier for entry will be virtually gone. Real MTB is hard...that's why a lot of people don't do it. But now a lot of people will be out there that don't care and/or are...more

Make believe racing for pseudo-athletes too lazy to pedal an actual bicycle? Stop kidding yourselves and just buy motorcycles already.

Makes perfect sense to classify a bike with a motor as "non motorized."

I've had this groupo for about 8 months (you could get it from Europe before the delayed USA release). While I agree with everything in this review, I feel like there's a piece of info left out. The bite point on my enduro 4 piston XTR brakes changes on long descents (or when...more

Funny how 3 years ago, this bike would have been seen as ultra long, ultra stable, but not playful at all.

it's more a matter of the difference in failure modes. yes they're intended to accomplish the same things and provide the same benefits, but do so with a different design. the foam inserts evaluated here rely on elastic deformation of the material. procore utilizes an air bladder.
