I agree with the one less hose/housing but I think a ground up reverb design is in order. Call the next one an Ēverb.

Suspicious indeed. This reminds me of the 1996 Olympic picks for the US XC team. Tinker did place higher in all the qualifying events around the country. However, Tomac won every event on the actual Olympic course he entered prior the Olympics if I recall. He should have been on the Olympic team. Tomac was at a higher point in his career at the time. Tinker, a true pro and badass, was entering the twilight of his pro XC career. Summary: politics, politics, politics.

My 2 cents. :D

Most of us DON"T want to look like a hybrid roadie or backwoods hiker on our MTB's. Plenty of options out there for that.

$150 for shoes that last around or less than a year of periodic weekly use is unacceptable.

I ride flats exclusively and have had about every version that 5.10 or even Intense made and they last less and less these days. My freeride pros have been the best fit and function but as other have...more

Nope...it means a microspine compatible freehub body, but with i9 hub and internals

@bman33 This comment is even more ironically snarky if you know that I destroyed the Dana 44 on my Jeep Rubicon last fall!

Gotcha. For sure they did cash in. I know only DT has a license for the new XTR cassette style. But I bet the other majors (Hope, I9, etc.) have them quickly enough.

I absolutely agree with you on the merits of eagle and new standards, but business wise, there is no denying they cashed in with the XD driver. I'm not by any means saying that was the intent, just a very nice perk for a bunch of years

Not at all. All depends on the application/purpose. That said, people asking for better stuff then complaining it doesn't retro fit a bike/part from a decade or more ago is joke.
Note, I drive a Jeep Wrangler so I am very familiar with the old solid axle.

I love that we have options. I also love swanky rad stuff. Cool to see Shimano doing something new!

That said, the (bigger) story to me right now is just how much performance you can garner for very little money. Its rad. 10 years ago there was such a big gap between...more

well, I work at a shop too and have expirience with i9 dt shimano and hope and my kings are the ones who need less maintenance.. on the other hand, shimano is completly diferent, bearings need much more love than others, and I actually agree with their thoughs about...more

Stolen? Proof? Pretty sure if there is anything proprietary from King that Shimano used it was discussed and worked out legally. I worked in a wheel shop for 8 years or so. The King cassette is one of the most reliable, set it and forget ones out there. I currently have I9 and Hope on my trail and DH bikes. But my DJ has a 10 year old set of Kings picked up from an XC buddy of mine and they haven't been touch in a while, still perfect.

I agree with all you said till the stuff about king hubs, since when are kings a maintenance nightmare?

The conspiracy is a joke. Physically the current Shimano based design didn't fit anything lower than a 11t cog without mods. Sure, they could just go larger on the big ring. However, 12 speed isn't just for easier gearing. It's also set up for a larger high gear and smaller front chaining the help optimize the suspension on many bikes as well as help tire clearance for short chain stays. Saying everything should be on current (almost 30 year old) freehub standards is like saying cars should all be on the same solid axle platform from decades ago and same specs across all brands. Ridiculous. Does it make if more of a pain to mix and match? Sure...but it was time for a change.

True forgot about that. However, comparing XO1 in pricing to XT there is a huge gap. XT vs. X0 performance gap is not as far as the $$ leads us to believe. Full disclosure, I ride X01 and love it. However, Shimano not releasing everything all at once and folks saying 'they are so far behind' is laugable. Shimano does things right before they release it in most of their designs. They are a conservative company, but their shit works. When XT gets the 12-speed treatment next year, it will be rock solid. As the article mentions, their focus is on XT/SLX next release so it will be there. SRAM Eagle and it's trickle down is great. They crated their own cassette interface to make it happen. Shimano has done the same with theirs and it will be most likely trickled down in a similar fashion.

Bottom line, it's hard to buyy a crap bike or components today. NX and Deore are miles ahead of even top end kit from not that long ago. Sram has fanboys and so does Shimano. Neither are junk and both sets of fanboys are not to be faulted for their preferences.

Rubber side down folks.
