also do you even know how much weight is saved by being an extra small? so much less frame material, carbon saddle too. 29 lbs is quite reasonable.

It's an Enduro/Freeride bike and not a trail or XC bike. Most pro Enduro racers are running bikes about that weight as well. In addition, it has a coil, not air rear shock. So as Nismo325 said, 'why doesn't it make sense?:

Specialized want to push the Stumpy. This is no more than the marketing guys having it their way. 'We won't be at too much of a disadvantage' says Loic. That pretty much sums it up. He'd rather be on his DH bike.

As others have pointed out, you can win without a chain, so why would a better pedaling bike be a good choice? There are always complaints about this track, but I find the live feed really good (way better than fort bill for example), the follow cam of Brendan and Troy a year or...more
