The vast majority of DH gear began as moto gear, and over time various features (like leather inner thighs) were stripped in an effort to make them lighter and more directly applicable to DH. We still see those moto roots today in many of the designs.

Personally, I can't see going back after wearing the Demo Pro pants. The freedom of movement and ventilation they allow is excellent, though there is of course a tradeoff. Knee pads serve as a more robust/reliable form of protection under the pants, while the pants themselves have a fabric that's durable enough to withstand crashes without being overly thick and restrictive. Just like a lot of outdoor apparel has advanced over the years to produce lighter and more flexible fabrics that still hold up, I think Specialized has found a better solution for mountain bikers.

I'm elated that Paul is walking under his own power, and elated that we have actually managed to move the needle.

BT, props! Keep up the good work.

Zink, your courage on the advocacy / ambassador side is just as impressive as your courage on the trail. Good luck with the union. If there is anything we can do to help, please say so. I would like to offer whatever resources I can, if there is a way you need help in terms of outside assistance. email: mike at spokeapparel.com

Red Bull - Thanks. Good work on the response (so far). We will be keeping this conversation alive so we look forward to continued progress.

Good things!

fwiw, I found that reply by Steve Romaniuk to be insulting and myopic. "So why are you speaking? You don't get what it means to sacrifice and hang it out for something you truly love."

What a foolish thing to say. Many of us put it on the line each and every day--just cos it's not at Rampage doesn't mean it's not valuable. I'd argue that there are TONS of jobs that are way more important than riding your bike around.

The CPA has intervened on riders' behalf in many situations--from anti-doping controls to racing in extreme conditions.

Apparently many Euro states have unions of their own.
