I was quite impressed with Minnaar's effort compared to the other riders that left the gate just before and after him. He was 10-20 seconds faster in those horrid conditions.

This looks like the future of DH. Like it or not the evolution is on. Personally I resisted 29ers until I fell in love riding one. A well designed long travel wagon wheeler can actually be loose in technical terrain and incredibly fun to ride. + Any ... more »

Also interested the what the options for a cheaper alternative (that isn't a cardboard box). Any experience with any of them Fred? Obviously paying the large fee is acceptable if it means you don't need to worry much about damage, especially if the cheaper alternatives don't...more

Seems like it's this bag and the Evoc that will top most people's lists. How do the two compare?

Trailbuilder

Looks that they took the best traits from the Evoc and Dakine then added cool features like the axle mounts, inflatable protection compartments and the compact collapsible design for when you have to pack it in the rental car & in your hotel room. Having travelled numerous times with Evoc and Voyager cases I think this new one does seem to address a few concerns I had. I pretty sure Evoc and others will be working on improvements to update their cases in the near future.

One major concern for bike travelers still rises: in this test the Scott Gambler fully packed with riding gear weights in at around 70 lbs. That will actually be a problem with most Airlines as almost all of them limit weight for a packed bike at 50 lbs, even when you pay the specific bicycle fee and they are usually quite strict about it. Overall size can also be an issue if your case is of larger dimensions.

Best luck I've personnally had flying with my bikes is with Air Canada and WestJet & it's been OK about 50% of the time with United and Virgin, depending on the agent at the counter. Delta and American are the worst for bikers as they charge astronomic prices and don't seem to consider us as key clients (their loss as far as I'm concerned).

Whatever case, bag or box you use make sure you don't go pass 50 lbs because most of these lovely corporations will charge you dearly for any extra weight - unless the airline employee at the check-in counter is either in a good mood, likes you spontaneously for some reason or is just a very nice human being and lets you carry a few extra pounds in your bike case.

It's reasonnably possible with a lightweight enduro or trailbike but it does get more difficult with a freeride or DH bike since you already have the case's weight (about 15-20 lbs) to take into account.

That said there is nothing better than to travel to new mountain bike adventures and it does get easier once you get the hang of travelling with your steed and equipment.

In case you didn't get what Loic meant,
"break my balls" is a word-for-word translation of what means "piss me off" in French.
Such a classy language.

I'm pretty sure Josh went way faster up top, he said that he absolutely nailed the top but his hands were already fucked coming into the second open section (2:43). Sam must've made up a lot of time on the loose off camber stuff.
If the splits had been placed...more

That was mental! It's probably a good thing Sam's run wasn't recorded - I'm sure it would make our brains implode...not that mine didn't a little watching Josh's run.

Cedric followed me into a big drop line at Nationals one year. Then tried to tell me I was crazy for hitting it. Pot calling the kettle black. One thing about DH pros, they always make you feel like you're amongst friends. Every one I've ever met from Palmer to Voreis, Peat,...more

Love this series. Like that it shows what enduro realy is and what kind of riding experience it offers.

Can't wait to see next episode.
