I really enjoyed the video.

Coworkers and other people frequently ask me what they should get and I never know what to recommend. This will be a good resource for those situations.

Also makes me reflect a little on how spoiled I've become with having to have perfect everything and chasing that....more

I’ve been riding one of these for the latter part of this year. I was a massive fan of the OG Scout and been waiting to get on this iteration for a while. I pretty much agree with everything said here but I think 4/5 stars is generous. To be honest I think this thing is too slack and too heavy to be a good trail bike - better just buy a Patrol as it’s no heavier. It’s lost a lot of that snappy feel all good trail bikes should have.
There are annoying niggles as mentioned (hey Transition you missed half the chainstay with your guard! C’mon! - and your internal routing is still awful) though I will say I expect these frames to last longer than the old ones did.

I’m now running a 216x63 shock in mine and it fits fine, no interference at full travel etc. 160mm fork. So it’s now nearly a Patrol with short chain stays...

Oh and seatpost insertion is inadequate - they reduced the height of the seat tubes over the old bikes but my post won’t go in as far! What the heck!? I had a 150mm drop post on my old Scout but it won’t go anywhere near far enough into the frame on the new one and now have to use a 125mm as compromise and adjust it with a QR clamp. That should not be in issue these days, Transition. Feel like they got so excited about their SBG thing they forgot to consider much else.

I do get what you are saying, for sure. I just added a Trek Top Fuel (2020) to my garage along with a new Enduro. Guess which bike is more fun on most of the trails I ride? Yup, the XCish one. I can load the bike so much easier on the tiniest of trail features and...more

@teamrobot isn't wrong. Robots are never wrong.

What you are describing however isn't new, nor is it isolated to mountain biking. I have zero idea what the number is but my two cents worth of a guess is 95% of all the shit marketed to dudes never gets used near...more

He's just a salesman.. his tactic is to get the consumer to question what they already have by pretending to be the 'expert'.

I don’t disagree with ya man. I truly do appreciate Chris’ influence and everything he’s done for mountain bikes.
And you’re right of course he’s looking at bikes in a different way to me although I did spend a good part of this decade hangin on everything he did, rode some pretty big bikes myself and had a blast.
But my path turned away from the Darkside. And now I ride a transition scout with a bmx seat and the suspension locked out :D

I really appreciate Chris’s out of the box thinking and the input and influence he’s had on bike design over the last decade is impressive and welcome. But he’s not always right and I think too heavily influenced himself by motorbikes at (all) times. If I wanna go ride in the woods with my mates (as he says in the interview) I’m not looking for a motorbike without an engine, I don’t want the slackest, longest or even the fastest bike. I’m looking for something simple, familiar and consistent and easy to throw about.
People started making longer bikes and it caught on quick because you can go stupid fast stupid easy but sooner or later you start to miss those little side hits and cheeky loops through the dirt jumps. At least I did.
Eager to see what he’s got in mind with the seat post but to help clarify my own feelings above - my bike has a bmx saddle on it with a rigid pivotal seat post. That’s how I go ride in the woods with my mates.

I'll be 50 next year. when my son turns 15 in 10 years, I'll be happy Ebikes have gotten so good! Thanks bike industry for progressing faster than my rate of aging.

Great bike for a little shredder. On a side note, interesting how the frame only option is 1k, while the sentinel or adult bikes are double the prices. Obviously a little shock upgrade, and more material, but a 1k increase is crazy.

I dunno how the heck you’re gonna ride that monster at a skatepark but it’s a nice ride. Glad to see more Marino’s and real custom machines popping up. Rad

I think they’re a great idea. I wear a ff almost exclusively and on the rare occasions I do go out on a trail ride putting my half lid on feels like putting a wet flannel on my head.

That's a foolish way to think about it. There's a lot of grey area when it comes to whether something is a manu defect or consumer error. Companies with lifetime warranties are saying they can cover that grey area indefinitely. That costs money, because every single manufacturer has problems at some...more

The new XTR hubs aren't dead silent though- that technology never got released. I've heard they are quieter than most, but the "Scylence" technology does not exist in real life.
