DHR-II Front // e.13 SemiSlick Rear (29x2.4 on both). For dry desert conditions and going fast with maximum braking potential on the front tire. The e.13 Semislicks come in super-beefy casings (while the MinionSS 29er tires don't seem to actually exist ... more »

As another data point - 29" 2.35 Forekaster. I got one on a bike that was new to me, and fully expected to remove it, but it's done remarkably well. I ride almost exclusively loose over hardpack and hardpack desert conditions, and ride aggressively through rocks on carbon rims, and I have yet to be disappointed in the performance of the tire. I will finally swap it out this season for a beefier casing Minion, but I've mostly decided to retire it from tread wear. I'm really curious about running a 2.6x29" tire for my XC-Trail hardtail setup - just wish there was a 2.6 DHR2 in 29" diameter to run out front.

If it Loosedog's new bike, why does it say M.Scott inside the chainstays?
also hasn't Iago been on a LT Hightower for a while now?

Pinkbike coverage was weak, came to VitalMTB, was not disappointed.

Awesome stuff.
I concur that the BikeYoke is brilliantly engineered; but it's hard to compete on price, support, and overall feel of the Fox Transfer with a WolfTooth lever. Love mine.

Use a wolftooth lever with the fox and you have a matchmaker and Ispec Lever for the same price as the fox lever. Have one on mine. Has a better feel and look in my opinion also.

The problem is if you limit the wheel size you are then giving the advantage to the smaller and lighter riders who fit the 27.5 platform better. What is next limiting everyone to flat pedals because clips give you more power, everyone has to run 165mm cranks...more

What happened to Florent Payet? I'd be gutted if he couldn't run in the final, after putting it on the podium in Val di Sol

Easy there, Lace! We often add tokens or bands when experiencing bottom-out issues. Nearly every Vital Test Sessions review discusses the addition or removal of air volume spacers, compression, and the like to dial in a setting that works best for our testers and the terrain...more

With Florent on it, they practically look like 24"s. I hope he can follow that breakout season with another great one!

Added reply in a thread XL and XXL bikes in Downhill? 3/30/2017 10:42 PM

Whereas I'm also 6'2", but long legged. I'm happiest on a bike marked XXL, with a reach in the 475mm range. It's a long bike 452mm chainstays, and running a longer fork I think the wheelbase is pushing 49"... But the added length out back keeps it balanced. ... more »

Hmmm. Sounds like a good bike, but not enough to take me off of my T275. As usually the content of these reviews has been nothing short of phenomenal. Too bad the bike itself wasn't.

It looks like the Super Deluxe coil is what the operator was designed around, so speccing the Kage for last year on production bikes was just a temporary stop-gap

This is custom bike territory in terms of price - and all you get are Giant's own dropper ( I have one and its reliable but budget) and own brand carbon wheels. Its good to see Giant have largely sorted out their rear suspension. In the past the longer travel bikes like the 26er...more

You guys have really stepped up your game on the reviews. The riding videos combined with specific rankings by climbing, descending etc are next level.
