Reply to Eliot Jackson, Santa Cruz Bikes, and racism in our community 6/4/2020 12:25 PM

If you watched the video, you know that what happened to George Floyd was horrifying and wrong. Eliot is one more person in a round chorus of black voices who've expressed that what happened to George Floyd wasn't unusual or surprising, but is a normal ... more »

Watching Jeff's video reviews, I mostly just want to go ride all those trails scattered throughout the mountain states.

I prefer 27mm rims to 30mm rims, but Shawn's point is valid- the 30 will be a tougher rim. As far as WT tires being "Better matched to wider rims," that is 100% marketing gobbledygook. I've mounted non-WT 2.5 DHFs to wide rims and to narrow rims, and ... more »

If you install the tires in a room that's already inflated to 25 psi the rims won't leak.

Ramp Control- I've never understood this product. How is this better than position-sensitive tokens on your spring and to and speed-sensitive high-speed damping? For instance, I'm running my HSC relatively open to keep my fork supple on high-speed chatter ... more »

Digging into my memory banks, 1. Brendan Fairclough crashed in quali and finished 70-something at Pila in 2005, finished 3rd in the race 2. Mark Beaumont crashed and finished 77th in quali's in Vigo in 2007, won the race. Rain in the finals was a factor. ... more »

Reply to 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes? 5/7/2020 12:16 PM

Dave, that's the idea. With fresh pads and a thick rotor there would be nowhere for the pistons to retract to, thus closer bite point. Sounds like it could work. Imma try it and let y'all know.

reseRved, have you noticed a change in feel at the lever with your bigger rotors?

If you didn't hit your rear derailleur against anything on your ride, then you shouldn't have bent it. For example, I've had the same GX 11 speed rear derailleur for 3 years and I've gone through 1 frame and 3 rear wheels over the same time. You've got ... more »

Another thought on OP's OP: The two biggest differences between drivetrain groupsets are materials and finishing. Fancy finishes don't make components stronger, but materials certainly do. There's a lot more metal and a lot less plastic in an expensive ... more »

Here's a thought: don't rotate your tires. I used to do this, too, but then I realized my front tires lasted 2-3 times longer than rear tires. Now I replace rear tires when they're worn, and typically my front tire looks fine. As a bonus, this allows ... more »
