Reply to Lets talk mullet bikes! 9/30/2020 4:17 PM

Reality check: Wheel size is 324th on the list of mountain bike variables that affect performance, and it's definitely behind suspension setup, BB height, head angle, and tire size on that list.

Reply to All (North) American Bike 9/19/2020 8:45 PM

I think you could get pretty close to a full North American build if you were building up a singlespeed cross bike. Velocity rims, Paul brakes, Paul and White Industries drivetrain. You can get a road-nerd carbon one-piece bar and stem from "Predator ... more »

I take great comfort in knowing this is all just seasonal variation and climate change is fake.

Reply to Would a Mullet bike set up make hitting jumps easier?? 8/19/2020 1:28 PM

Full suspension mountain bikes kinda suck on steep jumps, regardless of wheel size. If you're hitting jumps that are steep enough for BB drop to be a significant factor, I think you're going to be more bummed on your 2.5" super tacky tires at 25 psi ... more »

"Would a Mullet bike set up make hitting jumps easier?" No.

Reply to Fox and Slik Graphics 7/27/2020 2:55 PM

Two thoughts: 1) If Fox offered this product Slik wouldn’t have to. They're filling a market hole in the market that Fox refuses to. Do you know how much of a pain in the ass it is to get ANY aftermarket replacement decals through Fox for a fork that’s ... more »

Reply to When was the last time you had to hack a mountain bike repair? 6/22/2020 8:44 PM

One time I borrowed 8 rotor bolts off a wheelset and forgot to put them back on before a ride, leaving 2 rotor bolts per wheel. I rode for maybe 2 hours before my bike started to make a horrible knocking noise and pulsing when I braked. Turns out I'd

Great list, Jeff231. I totally agree. Beyond those products, it all becomes tuning the parts on your bike for your personal preference, like bar width and angles, bar height, stem length, which brand of pedals you're comfy on, which saddle you like, ... more »

If you watched the video, you know that what happened to George Floyd was horrifying and wrong. Eliot is one more person in a round chorus of black voices who've expressed that what happened to George Floyd wasn't unusual or surprising, but is a normal ... more »

Watching Jeff's video reviews, I mostly just want to go ride all those trails scattered throughout the mountain states.

I prefer 27mm rims to 30mm rims, but Shawn's point is valid- the 30 will be a tougher rim. As far as WT tires being "Better matched to wider rims," that is 100% marketing gobbledygook. I've mounted non-WT 2.5 DHFs to wide rims and to narrow rims, and ... more »

If you install the tires in a room that's already inflated to 25 psi the rims won't leak.

Ramp Control- I've never understood this product. How is this better than position-sensitive tokens on your spring and to and speed-sensitive high-speed damping? For instance, I'm running my HSC relatively open to keep my fork supple on high-speed chatter ... more »

Digging into my memory banks, 1. Brendan Fairclough crashed in quali and finished 70-something at Pila in 2005, finished 3rd in the race 2. Mark Beaumont crashed and finished 77th in quali's in Vigo in 2007, won the race. Rain in the finals was a factor. ... more »

Reply to 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes? 5/7/2020 12:16 PM

Dave, that's the idea. With fresh pads and a thick rotor there would be nowhere for the pistons to retract to, thus closer bite point. Sounds like it could work. Imma try it and let y'all know.

reseRved, have you noticed a change in feel at the lever with your bigger rotors?

New thread 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes? 5/5/2020 1:59 PM

Has anyone tried running 2.3mm rotors on Shimano brakes, or on any other brake system designed for 1.8mm rotors? I'm sure this is the worst idea ever, and I'm sure there's a very good reason why this won't work, but I've got tons of clearance on my pads ... more »
