Added reply in a thread X Games Real MTB 2022, what do you hope to see? 5/1/2021 6:45 PM

Hope to see a Real MTB edit, not slope style win.

Another vote for noticing significant roll-over ability difference going from 27.5 to 29, also in ease of 1-2’ ledge step ups.

So as a thought experiment of sorts, to compare one aspect of 29 vs 27.5 wheel, if all other factors were adjusted/ equivalent (contact patch etc…) if each wheel were on an axle tilted to the same angle and then rotated forward, their tracks in the ground ... more »

Stack and reach stayed about the same as i swapped headset spacer to lower the stem/ bars. Yes, a lot of geo changes occurred, i know that. I was just supposing that out of all the factors at play, the smaller rear wheel may have had the biggest benefit ... more »

Maybe i used the wrong terminology. i wasnt trying to compare my bike turns to a car with a shorter front/rear wheel base having a tigther turning radius. I meant that when i lean the bike to turn through the same berms (and in other places, it is just ... more »

I went mixed wheel size from 27.5 by installing longer ATC 29er fork and a wheel. HTA went from 65.5 to 64 and BB rose by 17 mm (i now only use low geo mode and it feels great). I can now more easily cut a tighter radius turn. I thought this was due ... more »

I put a 29 fork/ wheel my my 27.5 megatrail. Now for the low geo mode, the bb is 7mm higher than the previous configuration’s high mode. I love the extra bit of pedal/ crank clearance for spinning through chunky sections. I tried the mixed wheel setup ... more »

I usually fit in a size large just fine, but this one was massive. I could tighten the harness snug, but there was too large if a gap between my head and the helmet shell. I tried the medium and the sides of the chin bar were too tight on my jaw/ face. First time i found myself in between helmet sizes and definitely a bummer because the helmet design is excellent. Also strange since the previous gen fit me perfectly in size L. Now id like to try the new Met Parachute instead but am wary of return shipping costs if sizing doesnt work out again, if I can even these in the states.

At 5’10” (1.78m) I would certainly not consider myself a Viking! With the steep seat tube and short stem the bike doesn’t feel at all long in the saddle, and feels balanced out of the saddle.
Spomer is a touch shorter than me and got along with it just fine.
That being said, I think I’d...more

I operate a similar bike. Yes, the HA is fairly slack, and the ST is fairly steep - but it feels surprisingly natural in a fairly short amount of time, and you get used to it quickly. The part about 2x wheelsets to maximize potential is correct, in my experience. Or at least 2x tire options,...more

Im looking forward to the ESD writeup, it’s always interesting to read someone else’s point of view on a bike i know well. What i like about the adjustable dropouts is the long mode makes it very hard to lift front wheel, similar to comments on the el roy in this review, but feels awesome in high speed turns. Short chainstay mode makes it much easier to manual and pop off things. And I like to tinker so don’t mind the options.

I’m also on an ESD and can agree with other comments, it’s a super fun bike and the El Roy must ride very similarly. That price jack on the El Roy is crazy though: +$800 or 29% increase over the original cost?! And $3500 for deore drivetrain and M420 brakes? Hopefully the price increase includes a few upgrades as the test bike had. Would also like to see sliding dropouts. But its a cool bike im glad its out there.

Anyone could nitpick a part change here or there but overall this build nails the budget/dream combo. I just can’t decide if I want my next FS bike to be around 140 or 160. If can manage to also keep my current mega trail then I’ll definitely go a bit shorter for the next frame’s travel.

At this price, with a Canadian-made frame, the package is incredible value. Upgrading to better brakes is easy and you can choose what you like. I ride a Nukeproof Scout 290 (which btw is incredibly fun and was my go-to bike in the winter months, rarely missing my Foxy) and...more

Buy the stock deore build (same cost as SX build) then buy a Z2 for $500 and sell the rockshox new off the bike for maybe $200 to move it quickly. $300 extra and a screaming deal. My only complaint would be 2.4 tire limit but this is still an amazing bike for the $.

26 ain’t dead! Who is this 26er built for? Probably smaller riders, I wonder how large the sizing on it goes. Cool to see this line up.
