It is some sort of weatherproof electrical connection. A lot of stuff going on with this shock besides just the plug.

Reply to Re: Spoomer ca 2017. Anyone gone from 29er back to 27.5? 8/9/2021 8:37 AM

I tried going back to 275 a few times and sold each of those bikes within a few weeks. They hung up way too much in the rocks which I did not enjoy at all. This is probably terrain dependent, but we have a lot of chunder where I ride so I am not really ... more »

Reply to Les Gets Road Gap Carnage : ( 7/6/2021 8:09 AM

A rain delay of a full day would be difficult to implement. There are a ton of logistics if races are on back to back weekends, viewership would be impacted, etc. I think it would make more sense to reverse the start order (fastest first) if there is ... more »

Reply to EWS Prize Purse is Woefully Inadequate 6/22/2021 12:53 PM

This is a failure of the EWS marketing team and the riders themselves. The riders because they are willing to accept it and the EWS team because they are unable to raise more money from sponsors. The one downside to sponsors is that they will want more ... more »

Reply to Will lighter riders benefit from an RS Zeb or Fox 38? 12/18/2020 8:19 AM

The A2C difference is closer to 5 mm, not 25 mm difference between the 38 and 36 I have the '21 version of both the 36 and 38. The 38 ... more »

Reply to Another geo thread - this time, related to stack height 12/9/2020 7:51 AM

I have been messing with bar height and width lately. I moved my bar height by about 50 mm in small increments and bar width from 740 to 800. So far, at the top height there was a lot of issues with front end traction in situations where you wouldn't ... more »

Reply to I don't like the direction of modern trail building 11/16/2020 6:56 PM

Although I empathize with your sentiment and count myself lucky to have access to miles and miles of raw backcountry trails with amazing descents, let me provide a little perspective. Come on down to San Diego. SDMBA just got banned from working on some ... more »

Reply to Should the UCI do more double headers? (in non-pandemic years) 10/19/2020 11:04 AM

I think one way to solve it would be running it like an outdoor MX national in the US. A single qualifying event followed by two points paying races in the same weekend. Qualifying Friday, race 1 Saturday, race 2 Sunday then an overall weekend winner. ... more »

Reply to Shimano Working on a New Saint Derailleur? 10/19/2020 10:20 AM

I really hope Saint brakes don't go backwards like XT/XTR with the floating engagement point.

Nobody should be surprised by this. Socal is back on lockdown and it is unlikely to get better anytime soon.

Reply to E-Bikes Move Forward with USA National Park and BLM Trail Access - Thoughts? 9/5/2019 9:39 AM

I am 100% on board with the SBTS view of eBikes. Getting more people on trails is always a good thing. People get passionate about recreational opportunities once they experience them. All of the old time riders bitching about eBikes are no different ... more »

Reply to Mountain Biker Shot and Bike-Jacked in San Diego Area 8/11/2019 12:20 PM

That is a very sketchy area, but it also sees a ton of traffic. Years ago it was a homeless camp before they put the trail in. Not sure what time of day this happened, but if it was mid day it would be pretty shocking. Evening or early morning, not as ... more »

Reply to Interesting read about cheap, rentable e-scooters and the Repo man 7/26/2019 1:57 PM

They need to be permitted by the cities to control the numbers. I am not against them, but they have flooded the market with no regulation and become a nuisance. A docking system like the Ford bike sharing company would also work well and could be handled ... more »

Reply to Specialized Goes Sort-Of Direct - Click and Collect 3/16/2019 3:58 PM

Not sure when it started, but I know for a fact since I pulled mine from the box along with five others. It is now called a "pro build" and the shops receive a set amount of revenue direct from Specialized for each build. It is a significant amount of ... more »

Reply to Specialized Goes Sort-Of Direct - Click and Collect 3/16/2019 10:10 AM

The high end Specialized bikes are shipped as frames and built from scratch so it really depends on the level of bike purchased for the level of effort on the shop side. The problem with this model is that they are still not price competitive with Canyon ... more »

Reply to EWS Doping Thread Disappearance 11/12/2018 3:09 PM

Blanket statement here, but you had a high growth area in cycling and racing that was unmonitored for YEARS. I personally do not believe for a second that the sport was clean in the early days up until the association with UCI started recently. There ... more »

I can relate, 48 with 5 kids and a very intense job. Still race as much as possible and even though I am not winning a lot still having fun hanging with everyone. Priorities change, but the drive doesn't.
