Added a comment about video YT Mob Announces It Is "Taking a Break" From World Cup Racing 12/21/2021 10:47 AM

Them bailing on big talent is directly in their name "Young Talent". Yeti consistently has done this outside of Ritchey as well for over a decade.

I think what we are seeing here is a brand that is struggling to become a real company. Bro's starting a brand don't think about managing supply chains, warranty departments/customer service, trying to figure out shipping boxes, etc. Those the things are what take a good idea to a great company.

If you want to split the difference mount up an X2 with your Cascade link. I had my Evo setup this way and it was amazing.

An X2 rear shock solves the suspension issue. The previous DPX2 and current FloatX hold the bike back from achieving its full potential

Added a comment about feature Wheel To Wheel Comparison - Reserve's 30|SL VS Roval's Control Carbon 9/24/2021 8:56 AM
Salespunk

I ran a set of Reserve 30's for several years with zero issues as well. They are still going strong on the bike I sold them with. Wheels were absolutely bomb proof and I would be riding a new set instead of the WA1 Unions if they were actually available anywhere globally.

Have a set of the Control's now on my SJ and they are awesome wheels. Personally I can feel the difference of 1/3 lb in the wheels and think it makes a significant difference in climbing. I have ridden a lot of rocky fast trails on them and been great so far. In addition the level of detail they include is next level. Tension by spoke, runout to .0x mm, spare spokes, literally every detail of the build. We don't have a lot of the big compressions that Jason was talking about here so haven't noticed any deflection at all with them. Schroeder used to be local here and he rides harder than 99.9% of us, so unless you fit that description I doubt you would notice the deflection as well.

Highly recommend this setup, especially when you consider the price vs weight considering they are $500 less than the Reserves. Hard to beat for a trail bike setup.

Added a comment about product review Spending Time on Specialized’s New Tires: Butcher/Eliminator Review 9/22/2021 12:17 PM
Salespunk

I ran the Butcher/Eliminator combo on my Evo when they came stock. Was surprised at how good they are, but had some significant issues with the side knobs peeling off the casing. 90% of them were showing cords underneath after about 100 miles. This was within a week of the new tires being released so probably just an early production issue. Might try them out again since it sounds like the issue might be resolved.

Most likely built up the bike for the pictures and couldn't get AXS in time. They will switch it once the AXS becomes available.

The reaction of the videographer to some of his moves sounds about right.

Excellent review, but I find a few things disappointing. First off there should be some sort of allowance to setup the cockpit to the rider preference. Nobody is going to keep the stock bar/stem if they are not happy with them. Second, not dialing in the rear shock spacers is a miss. This can change the way the suspension reacts in a big, big way.

One last note, might want to try faster LSC and slower LSR to find grip and stability in the chatter. The slower LSR keeps the wheel from kicking back too quickly and on the ground providing traction.

Overall fantastic review and keep them coming!

Added a comment about feature Specialized Stumpjumper S-Works Vs Stumpjumper Comp Alloy 6/26/2021 8:48 PM

I am definitely fortunate in that I can have several bikes setup almost identically. For background I have a current Enduro, just sold my SJ Evo (I owned two of the previous gen as well, AL and carbon) and now have the standard SJ. I also owned the previous gen SWorks SJ as well.

So I guess I have done your test of Enduro/Evo/SJ. The Enduro and Evo were built identically with AXS, the same carbon wheels, Saint brakes, etc. My SJ is built very similar with two important changes, XTR four piston brakes instead of Saints and Roval Control Carbon wheels at 1450 grams vs my standard WA1/Hydra setup on the other bikes. For the stock SJ rear shock I have it setup stock volume spacers and 207 psi with 8 clicks of LSR (can't remember the compression settings right now) for an ~192 lb rider weight RTR. I did just mount up an Ohlins TTX 1 Air and that shock stock absolutely ruined the ride IMO. I think this mainly came from the much faster rebound tune of the TTX. In general it lost that "I want to smash the flats and climbs" feel and was also less controlled in the chatter that we have here in San Diego.

With this setup the bike is an absolute weapon and insanely capable. My friends and I are definitely on the DH end of the spectrum in what we like to ride. With the SJ I have been able to post times that are as fast or faster than my Enduro on all but the most extreme trails (I have not run those yet on the SJ). I have posted several PR's/top 10's on the SJ on trails that were used for local Enduro races. I am absolutely blown away by the SJ which I think says a considering I have been on the Enduro and Evo forever.

I do think it would be really interesting to move the SWorks suspension over to the Comp and see what a difference it makes in the attitude of that bike. My gut is that the custom tune on the rear shock would give it a much more aggressive demeanor on the flats and climbs while also delivering much better descending. We just mounted my stock Factory DPS on my friends SJ Expert and he claims it is a completely different feel from the stock Performance Elite shock that came with his frame.

Overall great writeup and we definitely appreciate the level of effort and detail put into this article!

You knock it out of the park with the reviews, we just need more of them!

Regarding this specific comparison, as an SWorks SJ (built up from the frame) owner the only thing I disagree with is the 34 vs 36/150 statement. The bike is SO capable that is deserves the 36 upgrade. I own an Enduro as well and the SJ is as quick or quicker almost everyplace. The Enduro gives a bigger margin for error and better performance at the extreme end of the riding spectrum.

Bikes look awesome, but the left side of the bars made me throw up in my mouth. Glad to see Scott actually using the Bold acquisition.

They are an XC/Road company similar to Ibis or Colnago, but being German even more conservative.
