And can be crammed into a 26 easily. A good 26 tube will also stretch to fit 29.
On most wheelsets, you’ll need to own more than one size of spoke if you’re going to properly replace a broken one anyway. Majority of wheelsets have anywhere from 2-4 different spoke lengths in it.

On something like pedals that take a beating, it’s a bit pointless to re seal. On things, like the fork top caps especially, that you want to keep looking nice it makes sense. Unsealed aluminum will oxidize and look dull after a while. On my fury from a couple years ago, it got an aged industrial look to it. The raw bits on this bike are all a somewhat shiny brushed finish so was hoping to keep that way. Used this

Just curious how you stripped the anodizing and re-sealed. I used oven cleaner to strip my crankbros Mallet e Pedals but didn’t reseal. Didn’t realize it was necessary.

Like Jeff mentioned, service is also important. But, for many riders the fit4 (and older rc2) dampers are over damped. Getting the correct fractive kit will definitely help if you’re on a tune that was biased towards a heavier rider. Stock fork tunes are kind of a guess as to the weight of a rider that will be on a size of bike. That’s assuming the company speccing the fork actually gets different tunes per size(ish)...otherwise it’s basically one tune covering people from 100-220+ Lbs, can see why this doesn’t work well. Steve has a very helpful calculator on his website that will help guide you to a proper tune from him. The fractive/luftkappe has been super popular with many of our fit4 customers, and many of the lighter riders we’ve installed it for have come back extremely happy.

As a lighter rider experiencing harshness with my 36 FIT4: does the Fractive system do a good job of getting rid of that harshness?

Yes, but how light are you? Can you describe the harshness you are noticing? What year is the fork you are working with? How often do you service it?

If you have a 34 fit4 and plan on keeping that fork, do it. If you have a 36 and don’t mind upgrading the damper, I’d go that route. We’ve installed about 30 or so luftkappes and about 15-20 fractive kits now. The luftkappe is an obvious upgrade. IMHO The fractive is a fix for people with fit4 forks. It does a fantastic job at getting rid of much of the harshness that lighter riders experience with that damper, while making it more capable and supportive for bigger or more aggressive riders. I can’t say it’s something to be compared head to head with a grip2 damper.

I’m curious to give these a try. I was given a rumba and some original snaps to try out. I didn’t end up riding the snaps as they measured up at a 2.2 and were super square, while the rumba measured in at 2.4 and was perfect for the back of the dh rig.
Overall I was super impressed with the tire, for a while anyway. The traction was absolutely unreal, braking was like dropping a boat anchor and it was one of the most predictable cornering tires I’ve been on. That great cornering feel also led to lots of hard carving and slapping corners, which the end result was lugs coming off the casing after about 10 days of riding. Some peeling was visually noticeable at about 6-7 days in.
The gravity core casing is also one of the stoutest most impenetrable feeling tires I’ve had on in a while, which was fully acceptable for the back of the big bike. It would be a lot of tire on anything not meant to only go downhill over rough terrain.
I rode these at home in Jackson on pretty prime early season dirt, and then for a week up on the coast and in whistler which were both pretty much bone dry. Traction on dirt, dry or wet, and a loamy Roberts creek was always 9-10. On rock slabs, I’d give it a 7, not horrible, but a bit less confident.
The new R2 looks like it’s a bit more refined, and if it’s lasts longer than the original, is also a definite competitor.
